Following the 2-0 win over Newport County, Wrexham have now broken a club record for goals in consecutive home games.

As Wrexham approach the halfway point of their first season back in League Two, it is safe to say it has been positive. With the Reds currently sitting in third place, a place in the automatic promotion spots could be possible.

This weekend saw Newport welcomed to The Racecourse in a derby which hasn’t been contested for five years. Despite not scoring until 67 minutes, Phil Parkinson’s side had the majority of the ball and deserved their lead. James Jones latched on to a loose ball off a Ben Tozer long throw. He smashed it in at the new temporary Kop end.

The lead was doubled just minutes before the end as Elliot Lee sealed all three points. Another Tozer throw caused problems as the English midfielder flicked his header home.

With the two goals on the day, Wrexham have now broken a long-standing club record…

What club record have Wrexham broken?

With the win, the Reds maintained their spot in the race for automatic promotion. As Barrow also won, the sides are level on points in second and third. It is hugely positive to go into Christmas with this record, there is no doubt about that.

Now Wrexham have shown another positive sign as they have beaten a long-standing club record which has spanned 120 years. This record is that Parkinson’s side have now scored in 49 consecutive home league games.

The last time that the Reds lined up at The Racecourse in the league and didn’t score was on Saturday, November 20, 2021. A 0-0 draw to Wealdstone was one of just six draws in the 2021/22 season at home.

This is a record which has lasted 764 days, at the time of writing. When you take into account that Wrexham have scored in every home game in that spell, the record is very impressive.

In that time the Reds have missed out on promotion, secured promotion and maintained a great start to life in League Two. Given that back-to-back promotion is looking very possible, the rise has been clear to see.

Thanks to goals from Jones and Lee, this record is still alive and given the form that has been shown, it doesn’t show any signs of slowing. Made sweeter by the fact that the record breaker came against Newport…
