Wrexham midfielder, Andy Cannon has drawn praise from fans following his excellent performance against Morecambe.
It is safe to say that Wrexham bounced back in style as they smashed six goals past a good Morecambe side this weekend.
After a loss against Accrington Stanley, Phil Parkinson wasn’t best pleased with his players after an underwhelming performance.
The ghosts of the Stanley loss have definitely been exercised now as the Reds secured a 6-0 win to send them second. Paul Mullin was on top form as he scored a hattrick against the Shrimps, which could have been more.
This was added to by an own goal as well as two top-class strikes from Jacob Mendy and James Jones. Goals starting to come from all over the pitch, the hallmark of a truly great side.
One man who returned to the starting XI this time around was Andy Cannon who impressed as he registered two assists.
What has Andy Cannon said?
Speaking with the official Wrexham YouTube channel, the Englishman has opened up about his excellent performance. Even without a goal, his performance was still enough to garner plenty of praise.
Discussing the team’s performance, he said: “We needed to bounce back after last weekend and we did that, superb today. I thought every man was to a tee today and we did what we set out to do. 6-0 great result.”
The result was superb and despite Morecambe playing well, for the most part, the Reds secured a win in style.
Adding to his previous comments, Cannon discussed the style of play: “We played some great football at times, we were set out to press early doors and be on the front foot and we did that. Got a few early goals and ended up going on and playing really well.
“When we’re passing it, playing and we’re creating chances it feels great as a player. You saw the link-ups, it’s a joy to play in.”
The way that the Reds were playing was a joy to watch and not only that, it was extremely effective.
How have fans reacted to his performance?
Not only was Cannon pleased with his side’s performance, fans were more than pleased with his performance. Following a post to Wrexham’s Twitter, fans have been discussing the midfielder and his two-assist game.
This fan was clearly pleased with the show that their midfielder put on at The Racecourse. With 93% pass accuracy and two key passes, he clearly made a difference. Once he got on the ball he looked to, and often did, make things happen.
This fan discussed the Wrexham side as a whole and picked out Cannon amongst others as the key to success. With Mullin’s hattrick and Hayden having the most touches on the pitch, they were all difference makers.
It is clear that the belief is there for the fans and with the form of several stars, their hope isn’t misplaced.
Cannon has had his injury worries so let’s hope he can maintain his fitness and continue to play a role in the Reds’ midfield.
