Wrexham took on Hull City in the EFL Cup first round clash at the Racecourse Ground.
Phil Parkinson made eleven changes from the side that suffered an opening day defeat at Southampton as Elliot Lee and Sam Smith were given opportunities from the start.
After an even opening to the game, Lee opened the scoring just after the half hour mark as he found some space inside the box and saw his strike deflect past Hull keeper Dillon Phillips.
Hull found the equaliser just minutes later when a low cross from Cody Drameh was turned home by Oli McBurnie to score his first goal for his new club.
Joel Ndala put the Tigers 2-1 ahead midway through the second half as Wrexham’s defence were split open.
Hull extended their lead with ten minutes remaining as Matt Crooks tapped into an empty net before Ollie Palmer gave Wrexham hope with a towering header in stoppage time.
The striker then equalised just a minute later to rescue his side as he again planted home another header from an excellent cross from Ryan Barnett.
Wrexham progressed on penalties thanks to Jack Marriott’s winning strike and the Red Dragons progress to round two.

Wrexham player ratings vs Hull City
Wrexham pulled off a dramatic late comeback thanks to Palmer and progressed on penalties, here’s how the Wrexham players rated in their clash with Hull City.
Arthur Okonkwo – 7
Made a solid save from McBurnie before the striker got his goal, standing tall and beating the ball away. Made an even better stop from Kasey Palmer during the second half at full stretch.
Aaron James – 6
A decent performance from the youngster who seems to have moved above Thomas O’Connor in the pecking order.
Dan Scarr – 5
Struggled to cope with McBurnie’s physicality on occasions but read the game well and made some vital interceptions with both feet and head.
Eoghan O’Connell – 4
Struggled playing on the right side of a back three and his lack of pace was exposed on a number of occasions. Looked nervy in possession.
Ryan Longman – 6
Not the eye-catching display he would have hoped for against his former club as he looks to dislodge Ryan Barnett in the league side. Should have had an assist as Hardie missed a gilt-edged chance at the start of the second half.
James McClean – 6
Industrious down the left flank and produced an excellent cross for Palmer’s first header.
George Evans – 7
Worked really hard in the middle of the park and showed his tenacity and commitment to the Wrexham shirt.

Elliot Lee – 7
If it is to be a Wrexham swansong, Lee has a goal to sign off at the Racecourse – a typical finish from a very intelligent player.
Harry Ashfield – 6
Looked bright and positive every time he got on the ball and showed he wasn’t afraid to mix it physically in the middle of the park. So close to scoring a stunner from 25 yards that whistled past the post.
Sam Smith – 5
His usual energetic self but perhaps still lacking that match sharpness after a disrupted pre-season campaign.
Ryan Hardie – 6
Ran the channels well and showed that he is a real threat in behind defences. Will be kicking himself at missing a glorious opportunity at the start of the second half when he missed a free header from six yards.
Substitutes –
Ryan Barnett – 5
Came on for Longman with 20 minutes remaining and produced an excellent cross for Palmer’s dramatic equaliser..
Josh Windass – 5
Had a couple of long range efforts but couldn’t drag his side back into the cup tie.
Jack Marriott – 5
Looked busy up top but was mainly feeding off scraps.
Ollie Palmer – 9
Just when you thought his Wrexham career was done, the striker plants two towering headers to send the game to penalties. A huge contribution from the big man.
Lewis O’Brien – 5
Came on for the last ten minutes but did not have sufficient time to make an impact on the game.
