Wrexham return to action on Tuesday night, as Phil Parkinson tackles Hull City in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

Wrexham must park the disappointment from Saturday’s defeat at Southampton as Carabao Cup action takes centre stage.

Phil Parkinson watched on as Wrexham were beaten 2-1 at Southampton, falling to two late goals after a Josh Windass opener.

Parkinson will look for a response against Hull City, with Wrexham looking for a passage into the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Hull City sacked Parkinson some 19 years ago, and the Wrexham boss would love to send the Tigers packing at the first hurdle.

Wrexham starting lineup v Hull City

Unsurprisingly, Parkinson has switched up his Wrexham side for Tuesday night’s game, rotating after Saturday’s trip to the South Coast.

Arthur Okonkwo is back in the Wrexham starting XI, having lost his place to Danny Ward for the trip to Southampton.

Youngster Aaron James has been given a chance to shine and will join experienced duo Dan Scarr and Eoghan O’Connell in defence.

Right wing-back Ryan Longman joined Wrexham from Hull in January and lines up against his former club, while James McClean starts on the left.

Exciting teenager Harry Ashfield starts alongside George Evans and Elliot Lee in midfield, while Sam Smith partners summer signing Ryan Hardie in attack.

That is an entirely changed XI from the Southampton defeat, with Parkinson making 11 changes for Hull’s visit.

Phil Parkinson makes Ollie Palmer decision

Many fans had wondered whether Ollie Palmer would be involved at all.

Parkinson has made Palmer available ahead of the summer transfer window, with the striker slipping down the pecking order.

Palmer has been named on the bench against Hull, though, meaning there is still potential for one more STōK Cae Ras appearance.

Kieffer Moore’s injury may have been a factor, with the Welshman picking up an ankle problem against Southampton.

Palmer may be on the move in the coming days or weeks, but he has been a fan favourite ever since his 2022 arrival from AFC Wimbledon.

The striker would surely love to play at the STōK Cae Ras one last time before potentially heading off.

Palmer is joined on the bench by Callum Burton, Lewis Brunt, Ryan Barnett, George Dobson, Liberato Cacace, Lewis O’Brien, Josh Windass and Jack Marriott.
