Wrexham faced off with Mansfield Town in a League One clash at 12:30pm on Saturday.

Wrexham headed into the weekend’s action aiming to climb back into the automatic promotion places.

The Red Dragons slipped out of the top two following a 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic last time out.

And Phil Parkinson’s men knew another big test awaited them on Saturday in the form of a high-flying Mansfield.

The Stags began the day fourth in the division and only one point behind the Welsh outfit with a game in hand.

Ryan Barnett fired Wrexham in front after just six minutes on Saturday with a superb effort from just outside the box.

However, it was Mansfield who dominated much of the game after that goal, with Wrexham’s backline under almost constant pressure.

Here’s how the players rated:

Arthur Okonkwo – 7

Made a few good saves to keep the likes of Will Evans out in the first half and was once again called upon several times late on.

Ryan Barnett – 8

Added another feather to his bow on Saturday, taking a break from providing plenty of assists to instead getting himself on the scoresheet with a superb strike.

Max Cleworth – 7

Made some crucial tackles and interceptions to try and keep star forward Evans at bay.

Dan Scarr – 7

Solid in the air and cleared his lines well for the most part but his attempts at playing out from the back left Wrexham exposed a couple of times.

Thomas O’Connor – 4

Not his best showing in a Wrexham shirt, giving the ball away a lot and losing his man on several occasions.

James McClean – 6

Bombed up and down the left side all game, impressing in equal measure with both his defensive and attacking acumen.

George Dobson – 6

Connected play well in the center of the park and won the majority of his ground duels with some key tackles.

Andy Cannon – 6

Another battling performance from the midfielder who offered a decent attacking threat while still breaking up play.

Elliot Lee – 6

Not the best game from the attacking midfielder, who struggled to feed the Wrexham strikers that often.

Ollie Palmer – 5.5

As always, Palmer was a key physical presence up top but he failed to provide much of a goal threat for a lot of the match.

Paul Mullin – 5

Saw little of the ball in the first 45 especially, but his off-the-ball work did allow the likes of Barnett and Palmer to utilise the space around him.

Perhaps should have scored in the 52nd minute when Barnett picked him out free in the box. Taken off after 74 minutes after missing another big opportunity.

Substitutes

Ollie Rathbone – 5.5

A bright presence when he came on, trying to push Wrexham forward after being penned back in their own half for much of the tie.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson – 4

Did little of note after replacing Mullin up front.

Jacob Mendy – 4

Only on the pitch for nine minutes.
