Wrexham predicted XI, team and injury news as ‘absolute class’ player starts vs Tranmere

Wrexham are looking to make it five unbeaten when they host Tranmere Rovers at the STōK Cae Ras this weekend.

After comfortably beating Accrington Stanley and Morecambe, Wrexham were held to a goalless draw by Harrogate Town on Tuesday night.

The biggest talking point to come from the game was the two-match suspension handed to James McClean after he received his 10th yellow card of the season.

McClean has been exceptional as a central midfielder in recent matches and his suspension has given Phil Parkinson a huge decision to make.

The Wrexham boss may have George Evans to choose from as he was pictured in training following his injury while Thomas O’Connor returned to training last week.

Despite this, neither were named in the matchday squad on Tuesday night and it is yet to be revealed whether they are ready for this weekend’s match.

As for Tranmere, they are unbeaten in their last four league matches and did Wrexham a favour by beating Mansfield in midweek.

With the Reds aiming to avoid a similar slip-up, here’s how they could line up for the match.

Wrexham predicted lineup vs Tranmere Rovers

Wrexham fans have fallen in love with Arsenal loanee Arthur Okonkwo and he’s having a fantastic season in League Two. The 22-year-old is least likely of anyone to lose his place in between the sticks.

Parkinson usually picks a three-man defence and we’d be surprised to see any changes this weekend.

Max Cleworth, Eoghan O’Connell and Will Boyle have formed a strong defensive partnership and after keeping a clean sheet in midweek, they will keep their place against Tranmere.

Ryan Barnett is currently winning the battle ahead of Luke Bolton for the spot at right wing-back while Jacob Mendy has flourished on the other side since James McClean moved into midfield.

Sadly, the Irishman is suspended for two matches and his likely replacement is Luke Young.

The Wrexham captain came off the bench on Tuesday night and it hasn’t been said whether O’Connor and Evans will make the squad.

Andy Cannon and Elliot Lee are the two mainstays in midfield, and neither will lose their place against Tranmere.

Parkinson, however, may be tempted to freshen up his front line by replacing Ollie Palmer in the starting XI with Steven Fletcher.

Previously hailed as “absolute class”, the Scotsman deserves to start alongside Paul Mullin after scoring off the bench against Morecambe.

Wrexham predicted lineup (5-3-2): Okonkwo; Barnett, Cleworth, O’Connell, Boyle, Mendy; Young, Cannon, Lee; Mullin, Fletcher.
