The Wrexham Supporters Trust announced this week that they have reached a verdict. This hands Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney a helping hand to acquire The Racecourse.
It has been a great season, on the pitch, for Wrexham with them currently occupying second place in League Two.
With Phil Parkinson at the helm, the Reds have gone from strength to strength. From National League to League Two and looks like back-to-back promotion is entirely possible.
Off the pitch, things have matched how good they have been on it. This is helped as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are doing great work for the club. From working with locals to helping their players with personal issues such as Anthony Forde and his wife.
With all that being said, there has been one thing which the Hollywood duo have looked to do and that is to rebuild the Kop stand at The Racecourse.
What had previously happened with The Racecourse?
After paying ยฃ2m for the freehold of The Racecourse, in November, it was reported that Reynolds and McElhenney were looking to acquire the lease.

At the time, The Wrexham Football Supporterโs Society Limited had control of the lease. It was felt that the directors were likely to accept the proposal and surrender it to Reynolds and McElhenney.
Discussing this point, the co-owners made a statement. This said: โThe payment of ยฃ187,000, is an equivalent amount to that contributed by fans to save the Club. To know that we will provide the funding to effectively pay everyone who contributed to save the Club is worth every penny. It gives us a great deal of satisfaction.โ
Now there has been a new development in The Racecourse storyโฆ
What have The Wrexham Supporters Trust said?
With the potential surrender of the lease, the trust had to hold a vote with its owners in order to make a decision. This saw 373 members give their opinion on the matter.
The vote carried as 352 members were for the surrender with just 17 against and four abstaining their decision.
Following the result, The Wrexham Supporters Trust made a statement. This said: โThe Board will now work with our legal advisors and the clubโs advisors. Finalise the necessary legal documentation to conclude the surrender of the lease to be replaced with legally binding covenants.โ
It is unclear as to how long this process may take but it is a good step forward with the renovations Reynolds and McElhenney want to make. This has seen a temporary Kop Stand be installed at The Racecourse this week.
It was clear that the Wrexham co-owners presented themselves well. This was made clear as the trust said: โWe want to place on record our gratitude to Rob, Ryan and the Club. This for their support and understanding throughout the process, including their agreement to obtain Kings Council opinion.โ
It is an ideal step in the process for the club as they look to improve the club, on and off the pitch.
