Following Wrexham’s comeback EFL Trophy win against Port Vale, there has been plenty of praise coming out for Max Cleworth.
Up against Port Vale, Wrexham managed to come back from 1-0 down to secure top spot in their EFL Trophy group.
It must be said, that Phil Parkinson heavily rotated his starting XI and required some stars to come on and save the day.
Paul Mullin and James McClean were brought on with half an hour to go. They managed to turn the game on its head.
The result was a perfect way to sum up the group stages of the EFL Trophy. Also allowed for some great performances.
What has been said about Max Cleworth?
Despite performing well in every appearance, Cleworth has only featured for the Reds five times so far this season.
The 21-year old has featured in all three group games and played his part as two clean sheets were secured.
On Twitter, Nathan Salt was full of praise for the Dragons’ defender.
‘A star in the making’ is a huge compliment to a young star who has featured for Wrexham since 2020. His defensive standards and his ability on the ball have seen him become highly rated.
The praise didn’t come just from Salt, it was echoed by fans who believed that Cleworth is a proper player.
This fan believes that the Englishman deserves to play much more and sees him as an eventual captain. His performance against Port Vale was top-class and has seen an outpouring of praise towards him.
Luke Young’s successor could well be Cleworth as the youngster looks to get more minutes moving forward.
With the Reds opting for a back three this season, there is an increasing opportunity that he can get involved in more league matches.
It must be said that experienced heads like Ben Tozer and newer signings like George Evans and Will Boyle are potentially ahead in the pecking order.
As the season goes on, Cleworth should get more game time and potentially become a key figure.
