Wrexham remain active in the transfer window with Carlton Palmer believing Phil Parkinson’s side should make a move for a Championship striker.

After the latest Paul Mullin injury earlier this summer, Wrexham may be looking to upgrade their striking options.

The club have been busy in the transfer window this summer with five new faces arriving at the Racecourse.

The Red Dragons have secured the summer signings of Arthur Okonkwo, Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Callum Burton, and Sebastian Revan.

Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney remain keen to support manager Phil Parkinson in the transfer market ahead of the 2024/25 League One campaign.

Parkinson has recently expressed his desire for more summer rivals after he revealed transfer talks with Reynolds and McElhenney.

The North Wales club have previously been linked with Championship striker Tom Bradshaw but Millwall manager Neil Harris is confident of keeping his player after his recent transfer update.

With the club keen to strengthen, John McAtee has emerged as a potential transfer target this summer.

Carlton Palmer believes John McAtee would be a ‘real coup’ for Wrexham

The former Sheffield Wednesday star Carlton Palmer has given his verdict on McAtee potentially leaving Luton Town to seek regular game time.

Assessing what clubs could be suited for the 24-year-old, Palmer named Wrexham as a realistic summer destination for the former Grimsby Town striker.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “He’s only briefly featured for Rob Edwards’ side in pre-season [with] Luton and the player keen for him to move on.

“Luton have got plenty of options in the attacking third, so it’s difficult for McAtee to force his way into the starting 11.

“So the best outcome for all parties would be for McAtee to leave the club. 42 appearances for Barnsley last season, 12 goals and five assists.

“Those [stats] suggest it would be a real coup for the likes of Wrexham or Bolton. Wrexham are doing great things, we’ve seen that [with] back-to-back promotions.

“I would think [at] Plymouth he would probably have more chance of playing regularly, but as I’ve said, he’s proved for Barnsley, he’s played all those games last season.

“So either a Wrexham or a Bolton would be a good thing, so let’s see.”

John McAtee would be a great option for Phil Parkinson and Wrexham

With the former Sunderland manager keen to add further signings to his squad he may well look at his striking options.

McAtee seems to be an interesting option should the club move for the Luton Town forward.

The 24-year-old has struggled for regular minutes at Luton with several loan spells, with the most recent being at Barnsley Town last campaign.

The English forward scored 12 goals during his time there last year.

It seems that McAtee will be moved on from the Championship side and be seeking a new club where he can settle.

The current squad at Wrexham could be well suited to McAtee with the squad strong in its foundations after back-to-back promotions.

The former Scunthorpe star could quickly settle into the squad and provide competition for the likes of Ollie Palmer, Steven Fletcher, Sam Dalby, and Jack Marriott.

With League One experience under his belt, he could improve on Dalby who has struggled for a starting role at Wrexham in recent months.

If Parkinson wants to upgrade his options McAtee would be a solid target if Luton are open for offers for their striker.
