Wrexham are set to make the step up to the Championship next season, and with it comes a big increase in revenue.

Wrexham posted record profits in their latest accounts, which covered the 2023/24 season.

In said accounts, it was revealed that the club had spent just over £11m on wages for the entire club.

Humphrey Ker has already confirmed that Wrexham will increase their wage bill by four times the amount in the second tier of English football.

How much they spent on this front in 2024/25 will not be confirmed until next year in the next set of accounts, but it’s safe to assume their wage bill increased, meaning they will be looking at an outlay of well over £40m on this front.

While that’s a stark jump in figures, the club will be earning additional revenue to offset the rising costs.

Wrexham backed to earn more TV money than other Championship clubs

We spoke to finance expert Adam Williams on the back of the club’s promotion to get an insight into how much money Wrexham could make in the coming year.

One of the several revenue sources is TV money, with Williams explaining that last season saw teams in the Championship taking home an average of £9m in broadcast revenue.

He said: “The median broadcast income for Championship clubs last season was about £9m, and that figure accounts for the distortion caused by club receiving parachute payments, which are classified as broadcast income.

“In League One, it was less than £1.5m. That gives you an indication of how much extra income Wrexham can expect, plus those figures are from 2023-24, before the new TV deal came in, so the final amount should be higher by £1-2m too.”

Now, speaking on the latest episode of the Fozcast, Ben Foster has predicted Wrexham will be on TV more than any other side in the Championship, which will bring with it additional money.

He said: “The thing with the TV money is the more you’re on telly, the more you earn, and Wrexham, you know for a fact, will be on telly next season more than any other Championship team.”

Wrexham revenue explained

Away from TV money, there are two more primary ways the Red Dragons can earn revenue.

The first is commercial revenue, with Williams telling us he expects Wrexham to bring in around £20m from that area.

“You can safely assume that Wrexham’s commercial income will climb exponentially as well. It was £13m in 2023-24, when they were in League Two.

“It’s hard to forecast what it will have been this season because what they are doing doesn’t really have a precedent, but we can be confident that there will be another significant bump. My guess is that they could be around £20m, perhaps higher.”

The other is matchday revenue, with a £9m figure predicted for their first season back in the second tier.

“They were at £5m in 2023-24, probably £6-7m this year. Maybe that can go to £9m,” Williams said.
