Wrexham have won promotion to the Championship, and plans have already been drawn up for the 2025/26 season.

There was much excitement around the club going into the day’s late League One kick-off.

Wycombe Wanderers lost earlier in the day, meaning promotion was guaranteed as long as the Red Dragons secured three points.

Wrexham beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 on Saturday, earning their place in the Championship for the first time ever.

The Welsh outfit last played in the second division of English football all the way back in 1982 but must now gear up for what is expected to be their toughest challenge yet.

Wrexham already plan to quadruple their wage bill

Wrexham may have only won promotion from League One on April 26, but plans for a potential spot in the Championship were drawn up earlier in the season.

It was revealed by club chief Humphrey Ker earlier this year Wrexham will need to quadruple their wage bill if they did infact reach the second tier.

Ker also shared an insight into how Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took the news of such an increase in wages.

He said back in March: “This was something that was discussed very early on this season in terms of what it would likely end up costing. Everybody is very aware of what would be required, which is good.

“When we had that Zoom, I watched like a hawk and I was looking at Rob and Ryan’s boxes to see what their faces do when these kinds of sums come up. They both looked very calm, which was good.”

What is Wrexham’s current wage bill

The Hollywood club’s wages bill for the 2024/25 season will not be revealed until 2026.

However, Wrexham’s 2023/24 accounts came out in March, and they showed how much the club spent on wages last campaign.

The Red Dragons paid out £11.044m on wages for the entire club (not just players).

That wage bill will have increased this season, meaning, at the very minimum, they will need to spend £44m on wages during the forthcoming 2024/25 campaign to put their plan in place.
