Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney has now revealed his plans for the temporary Kop stand.

Wrexham announced in September that the Kop would not open for the start of the 2024/25 season.

After being knocked down in January 2023, the Kop has been replaced, at least for now, with a temporary stand.

The build duration has been scheduled at 12 months, and it is unclear how long the temporary stand will be in place.

Delays mean that the new stand should be ready in 2025, which would mark a major moment for the club and the city.

The new stand, which will seat 5,500 people, has been one of the main objectives set out by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds since they tookover the club in February.

While the new stand will take its place on a roster of venues capable of hosting international football, the current temporary stand has had a huge impact on Wrexham.

Rob McElhenney ‘absolutely loves’ the temporary Kop stand

Wrexham installed the temporary Kop stand in December, opening it at 80% capacity in an attempt to boost the crowds at the STōK Cae Ras.

The new stand was well received amongst Wrexham fans, who praised the club for going ahead with the idea.

Meanwhile, owner McElhenney has also spoken about the influence that the temporary stand has had on the atmosphere as well as the impact of being able to host more people.

“I love it, absolutely love it. I actually asked the players ‘are they enjoying it?’ Because to me, it adds so much more vibrancy and action and it does it seem louder?,” McElhenney told BBC Sport.

“The most important thing is to make sure that another 2300 people have tickets to the games because obviously it’s getting harder and harder to get tickets. The bigger plan is, as everyone knows, is to build a bigger stand and eventually, another bigger stand so that the whole town of Wrexham can be accommodated.”

McElhenney’s bigger plan can take Wrexham to the next level

Of course, the bigger plan for Wrexham is to have the new Kop stand opened by 2025 and that can be a game-changer for the club and city.

While it is beneficial for the club to generate more ticket revenue, the possibilities are endless with how the new stand can used, perhaps hosting concerts, international football and rugby matches.

Last week, Wrexham fans were given a fresh update on the redevelopment of the Kop and where they are currently concerning progress.

With that said, it is certainly a promising time to support the club as McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds continue to transform the Welsh side to new heights.
