Wrexham under manager Phil Parkinson have secured promotion from League One, and have secured promotion for a third-straight season.
On Saturday evening, in front of the Sky Sports cameras and in front of owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham secured promotion from League One.
The Dragons beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 thanks to two goals from Wrexham’s record signing Sam Smith and one from Ollie Rathbone on a monumental day at the Racecourse.
But manager Phil Parkinson is one who’ll get a lot of plaudits and he’s certainly someone who deserves it, with the Wrexham boss having come through waves of criticism throughout this season.

Andy Morrell hails Phil Parkinson for Wrexham’s change of style in League One
Speaking on Matchday Live, former Wrexham player Andy Morrell reserved praise for Parkinson after the club secured promotion. Morrell highlighted how Parkinson changed the team’s style of play to suit League One, using his expertise of the division to get the club over the line in historic fashion.
Morrell said: “The National League promotion was one of relief and just huge pride. And there was more expectation in League Two because we was on that momentum and we managed to do it… But then to come into this league, and there’s some big-hitters in this league as well, but to have that drive, and massive credit to Phil Parkinson because he’s changed the way that we’ve played.
“He’s gone from expansive, at home 80 odd goals last season, to 50 maybe, at home, this season. He’s gone into that low block because he knows what it takes to get out of this league.”
Wrexham’s home stats in 23/24 compared to 24/25
Morrell has hit the nail on the head. Wrexham under Parkinson have taken a deeper approach this season, scoring more than 20 less goas but winning just one less game and conceding one less as well.
| Stat (league) | Wrexham at home in 23/24 | Wrexham at home in 24/25 |
| Games | 23 | 23 |
| Wins | 17 | 16 |
| Draws | 3 | 5 |
| Losses | 3 | 2 |
| Goals F | 62 | 41 |
| Goals A | 25 | 15 |
| Pts | 54 | 53 |
For Parkinson, it’s a third career promotion from League One and a sixth promotion as manager. But this one surely trumps all other promotions and the journey is still only starting.
There’s nothing to suggest that Wrexham can’t compete in the Championship next season.
