A Wrexham super fan is bidding to get to Racecourse Ground next season after watching his team clinch promotion.
Wrexham fans are well and truly on a high after their promotion back to the Football League after a fifteen-year hiatus. The Red Dragons won the National League this year with a record 111 points meaning that from next season they will be in the fourth tier of English Football.
Wrexham are one of the world’s oldest football clubs, and their fortunes have been transformed since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club in 2020.
The Disney+ documentary Welcome to Wrexham introduced the club to a new, global fanbase and now they’re one of the most followed teams on the planet.

Argentine Wrexham fan fundraises for 7,000 mile trip to Racecourse Ground
While there are plenty of new Wrexham fans from around the world, there are also lots of fans from before the takeover.
One such fan is David Mardones, who is from Argentina’s Welsh-speaking area of Patagonia, in South America. Despite being more than 7,000 miles apart, Wales and Patagonia share a close history. In 1865, 150 Welsh people travelled across the Atlantic to establish a remote community in South America.
Y Wladfa, a Welsh-speaking community was soon established, and still exists to this day, with between 2,000 and 5,000 Argentines being able to still speak Welsh.
David Mardones is one of these people, and as a Wrexham fan, he is desperate to get to the Racecourse Ground next season.
“It is my dream to go to Wrexham and be at the Racecourse celebrating goals surrounded by fans. I think about it every day,” he told the BBC.
After speaking with local Wrexham fans in a Facebook group, David is now fundraising in his community for his trip to Wrexham next season.
It’s an incredible story and speaks to the global reach of Wrexham, even before the takeover. Hopefully David manages to raise enough money to make his dreams come true and see the Red Dragons in the flesh.
