After a successful loan spell at Wrexham, the club made sure to keep Arthur Okonkwo permanently, and the goalkeeper’s statistics prove that was a shrewd move.
Arthur Okonkwo played a key role in helping Wrexham secure promotion from League Two last season during his loan from Arsenal.
Phil Parkinson was able to keep hold of the talented young goalkeeper and snapped Okonkwo up on a free transfer over the summer.
He’s been one of Wrexham’s most improved players over the last year, and now, he has the numbers to prove just how far he has come.

No goalkeeper had a higher save percentage than Arthur Okonkwo in 2024
Rather impressively, Okonkwo ranks above all other goalkeepers in the Football League when it comes to his save percentages in 2024.
As we begin a new year, it has been revealed by Opta on Twitter/X that, of the 32 goalkeepers to make more than 100 saves in the last calendar year, Okonkwo’s 79.9% save rate was better than anyone else in his position.
Of the 132 shots Okonkwo faced in 2024, he saved 105 of them. The Wrexham stopper conceded just 26 goals, which way outperforms his expected goals against tally of 34.
Okonkwo’s wrist injury meant he missed the last ten games of the season, but he still managed to keep a huge 15 clean sheets across the year for Wrexham.

Arsenal may regret letting Okonkwo go one day
The fact that Arsenal let Okonkwo leave for absolutely nothing may come back to bite them one day, and they must surely be looking at his performances for Wrexham and wondering whether they made a mistake.
He has been one of Wrexham’s best summer signings, even in spite of the ten games he has missed through injury. We would assume it’s only a matter of time before Okonkwo regains his place in the starting lineup now.
If he can come back and produce the same kind of performances he was before his injury, Wrexham will become a far more solid team defensively, and will be way harder to beat.
Indeed, the 23-year-old is looking like one of the best young goalkeepers outside the top flight, and it won’t be long before he is playing at a higher level, with or without Wrexham.
