Wrexham handed ‘positive’ Arthur Okonkwo injury update ahead of Bristol Rovers clash – big step taken

Wrexham have been without number-one goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo for some time now.

After a successful loan spell in the 2023/24 season, Wrexham signed Arthur Okonkwo permanently from Arsenal in the most recent transfer window.

The shot-stopper had a prolific start to the current campaign and was a key reason why the Red Dragons are still boasting the best defensive record in League One.

However, Okonkwo broke his wrist back in November, seeing Phil Parkinson forced to hand Callum Burton a run in the team.

The number two played well during his limited outings but Burton is now out for the season after he suffered a devasting injury of his own this month.

Veteran goalkeeper Mark Howard has now stepped up, with Wrexham signing Brad Foster on a free to provide cover.

After suffering so many blows to their goalkeeper department, however, the Red Dragons have finally been handed some good news.

Arthur Okonkwo injury update before Bristol Rovers vs Wrexham

Wrexham return to League One action on December 21st, facing off with Bristol Rovers in a 12:30pm kick-off.

After dropping out of the automatic promotion places this week, Parkinson and co. need a win to, temporarily at least, knock Birmingham City back down to third.

Now, ahead of the game, Parkinson has shared an update on Okonkwo and things are looking up.

The Wrexham boss confirmed the former Arsenal man received positive feedback from a specialist and has been back on the grass this week, as per BBC Sport.

He said: “Arthur saw the specialist on Wednesday and got really positive feedback about the way that the bone’s healed.

“That’s great news for him as well as us because there’s nothing worse than a player to be out injured and he’s been back out on the grass with us in the last week.”

Wrexham handed Jack Marriott injury boost

Even though Howard, Foster and Burton have played well in his absence, Okonkwo returning is a big boost for Wrexham and their promotion hopes.

But the goalkeeper is not the only Wrexham star to have received some good news on the injury front this week.

Jack Marriott suffered a broken leg in the middle of October and was set to be sidelined until around Febrruary 19th.

However, Parkinson provided a Marriott injury update earlier this week, confirming the striker is now ahead of schedule in his recovery.

He said: “Jack has progressed really well. We are looking at Jack being ahead of schedule and we are looking forward to getting him back and seeing him running on the training ground.”
