Wrexham have started the League One season in style with former goalkeeper Ben Foster seemingly impressed with what he has seen.
Phil Parkinson leading out Wrexham into a League One clash seemed like a mere pipe dream just a few years ago.
Back-to-back promotions have catapulted Wrexham into League One though and Parkinson was able to start the season with a win.
Max Cleworth and a stunning goal from Jack Marriott had Wrexham 2-0 up inside half an hour.
Richard Kone pulled one back before Steven Fletcher restored Wrexham’s two-goal lead.
Wycombe grabbed another goal back through Sam Vokes but it wasn’t enough as Wrexham ran out 3-2 winners to start the season in style.

Ben Foster on Wrexham fortunes
It’s difficult to gauge just how far Wrexham can go this season.
Parkinson has been able to bring in some quality signings this summer with George Dobson, Ollie Rathbone, Lewis Brunt and Sebastian Revan all arriving whilst Arthur Okonkwo signed on permanently.
Wrexham have certainly strengthened this summer and Ben Foster has now given his view on the club’s potential fortunes this season.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Foster admitted that he wasn’t really sure what to expect from Wrexham against Wycombe.
However, Foster has now caught up on Saturday’s game and feels that Wrexham look ‘really, really good’.
Foster added that Wrexham have signed some ‘really, really good’ players for League One level, highlighting George Dobson as a ‘fantastic’ signing.
Foster ended by saying that a top six finish would be ‘incredible’ – and thinks Wrexham can make it a reality.
“Do you know what? I wasn’t quite sure on Saturday how they’d do against Wycombe, I’ve watched the highlights and they look really, really good – really, really good,” said Foster. “They’ve signed some very good players for that league, George Dobson – fantastic. They’ve signed some really, really good players for that level and it wouldn’t surprise me if they were up there come the end of the season. I think if they can finish playoffs or above, it’s an incredible season, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did that,” he added.
Wrexham still need another forward
We share Foster’s excitement to a degree, but still feel that Wrexham are at least one signing away from being able to compete at the top end of the table.
Another forward should be a priority for Wrexham and could really make the difference for Parkinson this term.
Rumoured targets Kieron Bowie and John McAtee have slipped through the net, signing for Hibernian and Bolton Wanderers respectively.
Wrexham have been linked with Bailey Cadamarteri but may instead focus on Sheffield Wednesday teammate Michael Smith.
It’s clear that Wrexham want to bring in another forward and with Paul Mullin on the road to recovery, Parkinson may have the firepower for a playoff push.
