Wrexham are nearing the start of the League One campaign but appear to have missed out on the signing of John McAtee.

Wrexham have done great business over the course of the summer transfer window.

Star goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo signed permanently before Wrexham were able to land a quality backup stopper in Callum Burton.

Lewis Brunt and Dan Scarr have arrived to boost the defensive depth whilst Sebastian Revan looks to be just what Wrexham needed at left wing back.

George Dobson provides League One know-how in midfield too but Wrexham need a striker.

The new season is just 48 hours away for Wrexham and not having a striker on board is a major disappointment.

John McAtee latest as Bolton Wanderers battle Wrexham

Paul Mullin underwent surgery earlier this summer and is now set to miss the start of the new season.

Wrexham do have some attacking options but Mullin is a major miss and Phil Parkinson knows he needs another attacker.

One player Wrexham have been targeting is John McAtee.

Reports in July suggested that Wrexham were chasing a deal for Luton ace McAtee.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Barnsley and hit 15 goals as well as five assists with the Tykes.

Wrexham showed an interest in McAtee but now looks set to miss out on his signature.

Reporter Pete O’Rourke claims that McAtee is heading to sign for Bolton Wanderers instead and will undergo a medical.

O’Rourke claims that Bolton have beaten Wrexham in the race for McAtee, leaving Parkinson and co to go back to the drawing board.

Wrexham travel to face Bolton in the second week of the season, so McAtee will be an opponent very, very quickly.

Wrexham have other striking targets

McAtee may have slipped through the net but Wrexham can turn to other options.

Wrexham are keen on Bailey Cadamarteri as Sheffield Wednesday weigh up whether to send their young striker out on loan.

Blackpool and Huddersfield Town are thought to be in the mix too though, meaning Wrexham will face a battle.

Wrexham have also enquired about Will Lankshear but are left waiting for Tottenham Hotspur to make a decision on his future.

One name we can cross off though is Kieran Bowie.

The Scottish striker has completed a move from Fulham to Hibernian this week after speculation surrounding a move to the STōK Cae Ras.

Bowie and McAtee won’t be signing but Wrexham could still land Cadamarteri or Lanskhear – albeit not in time for the start of the season.
