Ben Foster has revealed the one thing that he was repeatedly fined for during his time at Wrexham.

The former Manchester United goalkeeper has been in a variety of different dressing rooms during his career.

The veteran shot-stopper made a shock return to Wrexham in 2023 joining the club to help push Phil Parkinson’s side to promotion from League Two.

The 41-year-old became an important member of the squad that became National League champions and ended Wrexham’s non-league woes.

During his time in North Wales the former Watford star tried to set an example to his new teammates. He was respectful and appreciative of their dressing room rules, but it has been revealed that there was one rule that he would consistently break.

Ben Foster always fined for wearing flips-flops at Wrexham

Former Wrexham star Ben Tozer has revealed the goalkeeper’s dressing room antics while at the club.

The English defender appeared on the podcast Fozcast, discussing with Foster their time at the Racecourse.

Tozer admitted Foster was respectful and a good example in the dressing room, but there was one thing that he had to keep pulling him up on.

Speaking on his experience of the dressing room the defender said: “The young players there [Wrexham] were brilliant and really good lads.

“It’s more the ones that have probably been at a big club and have come down to a club, like a Wrexham, and they’re used to having their flip-flops on and walking here, there, and everywhere doing what they want.

“They then come to Wrexham and theirs me aged 33 telling them no, we don’t do that here.”

Foster agreed, but added there was one rule he would break on daily: “One of the big fines I got, and I’m talking every day, is having flip-flops in the shower.

“Borrowing somebody else’s, and it would be every day. I wasn’t trying to do it on purpose but I would just walk into the shower.”

Ben Foster’s secret Wrexham agreement

With Tozer being in charge of discipline in the Wrexham dressing room, he found it funny that Foster had a secret agreement with one of the staff.

The players would be fined for small rule breaks, so Foster, 41, found a way to be allowed his phone in the physio room.

The former Premier League star admitted his sneaky deal, Foster said: “I agreed a direct debit basically, with Kev the physio. I think it was 200 quid a month.”

After being quizzed on the matter by his former teammate, he explained why he did it: “I’m not the kind of guy to just sit back and just be on my phone and not talk to anyone. I’m still talking to everybody.”

This story from the pair shows the lighter side to the dressing room and the strong team spirit with the players pulling together to keep standards high at the training ground, while maintaining lighthearted banter around the squad.
