Ben Foster now looks like a genius after what he said about Wrexham in May – he was spot-on

What Ben Foster said about Wrexham back in May is proving to be 100 percent right.

2023/24 saw Wrexham secure promotion to League One for the first time since the competition was rebranded in the early 2000s.

The Red Dragons finished second in League Two, securing back-to-back promotions under manager Phil Parkinson.

Despite dominating in the previous two campaigns, however, Wrexham had their doubters going into 2024/25.

Before a ball had even been kicked, Wrexham were predicted to finish 20th in League One by Opta.

However, barring a complete collapse in the second half of the season, it’s fair to say that prediction is going to be well off the mark.

The Welsh outfit go into the latest round of fixtures sat second in League One and looking to earn a place in the Championship for 2025/26.

What Ben Foster said about Wrexham in May

Promotion is still not guaranteed for Wrexham in 2024/25 but it’s very much on the cards.

One point separates them and league leaders Wycombe Wanders, while they have already put a seven-point gap between themselves and seventh place ahead of their trip to Burton.

As a result, even if automatic promotion proves too tough a challenge, we should, at the very least, see the Red Dragons in the play-offs come May.

And, to his credit, what Ben Foster said about Wrexham in May of 2024 is proving to be pretty spot-on at this stage.

The ex-goalkeeper said: “I think they’re going to invest again in another four or five, maybe half a dozen players.

“Good players, solid people, solid professionals that are going to raise the standard just a little bit more.

“But I think that what they’ve got in that team anyway is League One level. If you can add a little bit more quality, a bit more experience, I think they’re going to be there or thereabouts next season.

“And to go back-to-back-to-back, I don’t know if it’s been done before, but it’d be phenomenal.”

Foster’s prediction is very accurate right now, with Wrexham going on to sign a number of quality stars over the summer and being right in the promotion mix as we head toward Christmas.

Wrexham 2024/25 promotion prediction

While Wrexham fans were unlikely too pleased to see Opta have them predicted to finish 20th back in August, they should be much happier with the stat-based site right now.

Opta’s predicted league table updates after every round of games and the Welsh side have shot up the rankings over the last few months.

Ahead of Burton, Parkinson’s men have a 2.14 percent chance of winning the League One title and a 14 percent chance of taking the second automatic place.

Opta are also currently giving Wrexham a 72.34 chance of securing a place in next season’s Championship by winning the play-offs, while their chances of being relegated are now rated at zero percent.
