Wrexham have been transformed under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

As 2024/25 begins to draw to a close, Wrexham are still in with a chance of securing a third promotion in a row.

The Red Dragons’ automatic hopes were dented in midweek following a 2-0 defeat to Reading, but a spot in the top-six is still all but guaranteed.

In turn, it isn’t wild to say there is every chance that come 2025/26, Wrexham could be plying their trade in the Championship for the first time ever.

It would be a remarkable achievement, given that the club were still playing in the National League just two years ago.

A lot of credit must be given to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, whose backing helped end a 15-year spell in the fifth tier of English football and continues to see them climb the EFL ranks to this day.

Ben Foster shares what Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds is like in real life

Part of the reason for Wrexham’s success under the North Americans has been the marquee signings the duo have sanctioned.

One of the most high-profile names to make his way to the Racecourse Ground in the last few years was Ben Foster.

Foster was crucial to Wrexham winning promotion from the National League, coming out of retirement to play the final eight games of the 2022/23 season.

He departed Wales early in 2023/24 but continues to discuss and praise Wrexham to this day.

When speaking on the Breaking Beard podcast this week, the former goalkeeper was asked what Reynolds is really like in real life.

And fans are probably somewhat surprised to hear Foster label Reynolds, who is a larger-than-life character on the big screen, as ‘shy’.

He said: “Brilliant. He’s exactly the same; he’s almost shy in a way. I’d say almost shy in a way where he doesn’t really like all the crowds, and he doesn’t like all the attention.

“He would come into the changing room just after some of the games when he was there and you can see he was almost, I suppose it is a bit daunting I don’t care who you are right, if you walk into a changing room with 30 blokes in there, all athletes as well, it’s a bit daunting isn’t it?

“Like people are looking at, they’re always just watching you. You can see he was a little bit sort of like on the back foot a little bit shy about it all.

“But he was such a nice guy.”

What Ryan Reynolds said about Ben Foster

Foster’s penalty save against Notts County toward the back end of 2022/23 will go down as one of the biggest moments in Wrexham’s history.

Unfortunately, things simply didn’t work out for the former Watford man in the following months.

He started Wrexham’s first four league games in the fourth tier before deciding to call an end to his playing career.

After announcing his retirement from playing and leaving Wrexham, Reynolds labelled Foster as ‘generous’.

He said: “I thought it was generous. Like, it was an incredibly generous thing to do. So few people know when to call it.”
