Wrexham are still on cloud nine after beating Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon, securing promotion to the Championship.

This weekend will bring the curtain down on Wrexham’s rather brief stay in League One.

Phil Parkinson takes his Wrexham squad to face Lincoln City on the final day of the season, with promotion already secured just a year since being promoted from League Two.

Wrexham’s 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic secured a spot in the Championship for next season, sparking incredible celebrations at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham players may have been a little worse for wear after promotion; Rob McElhenney was certainly feeling the effects of the celebrations.

Parkinson will want his side to end the season on a high, though, before another big summer awaits for Wrexham.

Ben Foster shares Wrexham promotion prediction

The big question now surrounds what comes next for Wrexham as this remarkable journey continues.

Three promotions in a row is astonishing enough, but some will be questioning whether a fourth is possible.

Wrexham are facing some huge clubs in the Championship, but you can never rule out more success for this Wrexham side.

Rob McElhenney certainly sees more success coming for Wrexham, and Ben Foster appears to agree.

In a clip posted on The Fozcast’s Instagram page, Foster shared his prediction for Wrexham’s promotion hopes.

Foster suggested that Wrexham will be in the Premier League within the next five years, backing the rise under McElhenney and Reynolds to continue.

Making that prediction come true will take some smart investment, but Foster clearly believes in the project to take another step forward.

“I genuinely think, within five years, Wrexham will be in the Premier League,” said Foster. “Within five years,” he added.

Fierce Championship battle expected next season

Troy Deeney is backing Wrexham for a top-half finish, but Parkinson will need some significant signings to hit that mark.

Burnley and Leeds United are already up, with a frantic battle for the play-offs coming on the final day.

Only one of Sheffield United, Sunderland, Bristol City, Coventry City, Millwall, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough can go up – and those who miss out will be looking to bounce back next season.

The likes of West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City may be much stronger next season, too, whilst relegated Ipswich Town, Leicester City and Southampton certainly have the quality to bounce straight back up.

Wrexham are facing some huge clubs next season, but none of them can match this momentum – and the sheer magic being created at Wrexham means nothing can truly be ruled out next season.
