Former Sheffield United striker, Billy Sharp has opened up about his clash with Wrexham and argument with Phil Parkinson.

This season, Wrexham find themselves in the third round of the FA Cup with a clash against Shrewsbury coming up next month.

Last campaign, Phil Parkinson was able to guide his side to the fourth round following a 4-3 win over Coventry City.

In the next round, Sheffield United were the team travelling to The Racecourse and after a 3-3 draw, a replay was required.

The return game saw the Reds lose 3-1 away from home and be dumped out of the FA Cup. Following the game, Billy Sharp did some things to make him an unpopular figure with Wrexham fans.

What has Billy Sharp said about Phil Parkinson?

Following the full-time whistle, Sharp took it upon himself to taunt the travelling fans to the annoyance of the fans and manager. On that, the free agent has opened up to former Red, Ben Foster on The Fozcast in recent weeks.

Discussing the moment, Sharp said: “I went over to my mum, my dad, wife, kids, and my friends, as I normally do. I blow my kids a kiss, getting coins, having a bit of banter.

“I do a little crying gesture to the Wrexham fans – which I could have done a lot worse. Parky comes running over, ‘What are you saying?’ He is giving it loads because I’m having a bit of banter and his team has just got knocked out. I’m happy we’ve gone through and spoiled the underdog story.”

This won’t help the striker’s popularity that is for sure. It seemed like an almost unprovoked action on the night. The surprise of this was even commented on by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney following the game.

In that episode of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, the behind-the-scenes moments after the game. From Parkinson in the dressing room to an argument between the manager and Sharp.

Discussing that, the ex-LA Galaxy man added: “I’ve had a bit of beef with Parky before. No grudge. There was no need for him to get involved after the game. He was trying to look out for his fans.

“Then Paul Mullin came across, that was fine and had a bit of banter with him. [Ben] Tozer was giving it all game. Not just me, most of the players.”

It is safe to say that Sharp isn’t a popular figure with Wrexham fans. This has seen fans come out against potentially signing him. The moment was an odd one and it hasn’t been forgotten.
