Wrexham have announced that they are set to install a temporary stand at The Racecourse at the Kop End. Fans have been reacting to the news on social media.
Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over the club, they have had a focus on improving The Racecourse.
Although planning permission etc. has been tough for Wrexham to get, the plans for the new Kop Stand looked to be going ahead.
With the co-owners acquiring the lease for the ground in recent weeks, it appeared that the wheels were in motion. With that being said, a temporary measure has been put in place while discussions over a new stand are had.
What has happened at The Racecourse?
The club have announced via Twitter, that there is to be a stand set up in place of the Kop Stand temporarily.
The statement said: “Work will commence this week to install a temporary, 2,289-capacity stand behind the goal at the Kop End. Applications for the relevant permissions and licences are being made simultaneously with the construction.”
The end behind one of the goals has been set empty for what has felt like a long time. With iconic moments like Ben Foster’s penalty save having a building site as the backdrop. Although this isn’t the end of the world, to have fans behind the goal would be a better option.

This temporary stand will see a great number of Wrexham fans able to secure tickets at The Racecourse for the run-in of the second half of the season. This has otherwise been a difficult task for the majority of the season, especially in bigger games. With a derby like Newport County coming up, the demand for tickets will always be there.
Although having a temporary stand isn’t the most ideal situation, being able to have more fans for this campaign can only be a good thing.
How have fans reacted?
This news did come out of the blue for the Reds and their fans who weren’t expecting this kind of news to come out.
With that being said, it was received in an overly positive sense by fans who seemed to be happy with the idea of a new stand. This is one fan who reacted in a simple way but tells the whole story.
Something as simple as having 2000 fans behind the goal in place of the Kop Stand at The Racecourse will make a huge difference. It is clear that this will make a difference and seems like an ideal solution to the issue of a missing stand.
This fan continued to show the good feeling around the stand and the prospect of it. Some fans have their reservations but this is about the longevity of the stand as opposed to the current prospect.
It must be said that to be able to bring in an extra few thousand fans into the Racecourse is a positive thing. It adds more to the atmosphere and allows more people to finally be able to secure tickets for themselves. Although it isn’t the new Kop Stand just yet, for now, it’ll do the job.
