Bolton can crush Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham promotion hopes by continuing 43-year record

Wrexham are back in League One action against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, March 1st.

The Red Dragons lost to Peterborough United earlier this week, meaning there will be no Tom Brady reunion for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wembley Stadium later this season.

Instead, Wrexham will now turn their attention to the matter at hand, securing a third successive promotion under Phil Parkinson.

Next up for the Welsh outfit is a home meeting with Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon at 12:30pm UK time.

Matty James could return for Wrexham vs Bolton following a long-term injury to Andy Cannon.

But that may upset the balance in midfield, which has been a problem for Parkinson in recent weeks and is something he can’t afford to happen again versus the Wanderers.

Bolton record vs Wrexham is alarming

Wrexham go into the latest round of fixtures sat third in the division, aiming to close the gap on second-place Wycombe Wanderers.

Wycombe play Birmingham City this weekend and as they are likely to drop points in that tie, Saturday’s meeting with Bolton is a must-win for Parkinson and co. if they want to secure automatic promotion in 2024/25.

However, picking up the three points will be easier said than done, especially given the away outfit’s record against the Red Dragaons.

Wrexham beat Bolton in the quarter-final of the EFL Trophy in February but when playing against them in the league, it’s proven to be much harder to secure wins.

The Hollywood-owned club have won just one of their last 10 league meetings with Bolton. They have drawn two – including the 0-0 stalemate earlier this season – and lost seven.

In fact, you have to go all the way back to 1982 to find the last time Wrexham were able to get one over on Saturday’s opponents in a league fixture.

Concering Wrexham vs Bolton stats you should know

Bolton are now pushing to break into the top six and have won their most recent three matches in League One – last winning four on the spin back in January 2024.

Meanwhile, despite Wrexham being solid at home this term, it’s worth noting that their latest opponents have secured four victories in their last five visits to the Racecourse.

Should Parkinson and co. indeed taste defeat, their chances of pipping Wycombe to second place will decrease, especially if the Chairboys cause an upset against Birmingham over the weekend.
