Wrexham secured successive promotions for the first time in their history. Ahead of their campaign in League One, Elliot Lee has revealed what factor can give his side the edge over their rivals.

Wrexham have a lot of work to do in the transfer window to get their squad prepared for the challenge of League One.

Having waved goodbye to nine first-team players, the latest being Scott Butler, Phil Parkinson has created space in his squad to spend the healthy sum of money presented to him.

Although the transfer window doesn’t open until June 14th, the Reds are moving forward with their plans and several players have been linked, including Wigan Athletic trio Tom Pearce, Josh Magennis and Stephen Humphrys.

It’s clear that Wrexham need to bolster multiple areas of their side with depth, as while the nucleus of their squad boasts League One experience, there is a shortage of options at goalkeeper, centre back and central midfield.

Solid recruitment will give Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds a great opportunity to achieve their ambitions of reaching the Championship, but according to Elliot Lee, there is another factor that is just as important.

Elliot Lee says dressing room is the ‘biggest thing’ Wrexham have

Wrexham are often criticised by the wider footballing world for exercising their big budget to achieve success.

However, they also forget to mention that the scouting team don’t just look at a quality player and snap up, they instead look at the person first and whether their personality matches the dressing room.

Lee – who arrived at Wrexham in the summer of 2022 – believes the dressing room is the ‘biggest thing’ that can give his side the edge over their rivals.

Speaking to The Leader, Lee said: “We have already got amazing players and without getting too far ahead of ourselves, I am sure we will add more great players in the summer and we will get stronger.

“The biggest thing we have is our dressing room, we are all so close. It’s full of great lads and the staff are all so close.

“It’s a big leap but one we are all ready for and looking forward to already.”

What Elliot Lee has said about the Wrexham dressing room previously

The camaraderie in Wrexham’s dressing room is top class and the additions of James McClean and Steven Fletcher last summer have only added to their togetherness.

It’s this level of bond between the players that ultimately counts when the going gets tough, as it did at times last season, with Parkinson’s squad using every ounce of their experience to drag them through a difficult period.

Lee believes the close-knit bond he has with his teammates can give Wrexham their edge over their rivals having described the dressing room as the best he’s been a part of.

“I’ve said it before it is the best dressing room, I have ever been a part of and that is why we handle moments like we did today,” Lee said.

“We all felt strong going into these games where the pressure is high because we dealt with it all last year.”

With big sides such as Birmingham City and Huddersfield coming down from the Championship, the pressure will be on Wrexham to match the levels required in the third tier as it promises to be another fascinating campaign in Wales.
