Wrexham have already secured promotion, but several players are still in the hunt for promotions themselves.

The League One season is over and Wrexham are celebrating another promotion.

Wrexham’s 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic secured a third straight promotion as Phil Parkinson prepares for Championship action.

Next season is far from the minds of Wrexham stars right now, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds funding another promotion party in Las Vegas.

Wrexham’s promotion is in the bag, but some former Wrexham players are chasing promotions of their own as the play-offs begin in English football.

Billy Waters and Mike Fondop, Oldham Athletic

Wrexham allowed Billy Waters to join Oldham Athletic in January, after a fairly forgettable spell at the STōK Cae Ras.

Waters has played 13 times for the Latics since his January move, scoring twice in the process.

A meeting with former club Halifax Town awaits, but Waters has been out injured since mid-March.

Waters has returned to training ahead of the National League play-offs and could feature against Halifax.

Waters has joined former Wrexham striker Mike Fondop at Oldham, with the Cameroonian hitting 17 National League goals this season.

Fondop and Waters will be key to Oldham’s promotion hopes, especially with a potential game against York City to come.

Rory Watson, York City

Former Wrexham goalkeeper Rory Watson is part of the York City squad, but may not feature in the play-offs.

Watson joined Wrexham for the 2022-23 season in the National League after an injury to Christian Dibble.

The former Hull City man failed to make a league appearance for Wrexham before heading to Doncaster Rovers.

Watson is now backup goalkeeper at York, and whilst he came off the bench on the final day of the National League season, first-choice stopper Harrison Male is set to start in the play-offs.

Joe Quigley and Ben Tozer, Forest Green Rovers

The man Wrexham fans will really be supporting across play-off season is Ben Tozer.

Tozer joined Forest Green Rovers on a free transfer last summer as his Wrexham contract came to an end.

Tozer is still so popular at Wrexham and has played an important role in Forest Green finishing third in the National League.

Wrexham fans would be forgiven for forgetting that Forest Green striker Joe Quigley also turned out for the club, joining on loan from Bournemouth in 2015.

Quigley only made four appearances for Wrexham, scoring once for the club.

Now 28, Quigley has failed to score this season but has chipped in with four assists.

Forest Green will face the winners of Rochdale vs Southend United, with Wrexham fans no doubt hoping Tozer can secure a promotion back to the EFL.
