A former promotion-winning defender with Wrexham has just completed the move to a non-league side months after leaving the club.
Wrexham are currently building for their first League One campaign in almost two decades.
Phil Parkinson waved goodbye to nine first-team players to make extra room in his squad, and although no signings have been made, there have been links to several.
The Reds are reportedly showing an interest in highly-rated Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard while current out-of-contract stars Marvin Ekpiteta and Stephen Humphrys have also been linked.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds require a summer of wholesale changes to compete with some of the talented teams in the third tier, including Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town.
Former Wrexham defender Bryce Hosannah joins AFC Fylde
Wrexham’s preparations for the upcoming campaign started a while ago as defender Bryce Hosannah departed the club in February.
Hosannah was signed by Parkinson in the summer of 2021, with the 25-year-old making 38 appearances for the club.
A bulk of those outings came during the 2021/22 season as Wrexham narrowly missed out on promotion via the play-offs and the defender featured 25 times.
McElhenney sent a 10-word message to Hosannah after he departed the Racecourse Ground, and he was soon captured by Fylde on a short-term contract in February.
Now, the Englishman has sealed a permanent move to the side that finished 18th in the National League last term.
After putting pen to paper, Hosannah said: “I’m feeling very positive about the move and the upcoming season.”
“When I joined the club half-way through last season, the club weren’t in the best place, but I quickly found my feet and started to focus on getting the Coasters out of the trouble we were in”
“I’m really hoping that I can continue to improve on a personal level and us also as a team, we were on an upward trajectory at the end of last season and I want nothing more than to continue that.”
Bryce Hosannah has found his level
During the process of soaring up the leagues, certain players at the start of the journey will no longer be good enough for where they’re aiming to go.
In the case of Hosannah, he was a reliable backup centre half in the National League and was utilised by Parkinson sporadically.
However, once Wrexham earned their promotion to League Two, he only made two appearances in the EFL Trophy as the likes of Max Cleworth, Will Boyle, Tom O’Connor, Eoghan O’Connell and even Ben Tozer were above him in the pecking order.
Hosannah has now found a permanent home where he’ll be utilised regularly, with Fylde manager Chris Beech describing him as a “really good footballer” who adds “great competition” to the current squad.
