Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have taken Wrexham from the depths of the National League to one of the best-known clubs in world football.
After being inspired by the ‘Sunderland Till I Die’ documentary on Netlifx, Rob McElhenney decided to try and purchase Wrexham AFC.
The Always Sunny star needed extra investment, however, and that is when he turned to actor Ryan Reynolds.
Together, the North American duo managed to convince the Wrexham Supporters Trust to sell the club to them in February 2021.
The Red Dragons had spent over a decade in the National League at the time of purchasing but are now battling it out at the top end of League One following back-to-back promotions.
It’s not just on the field where Wrexham have been completely transformed under their current owners, however.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham valued at £100m
When Rob and Ryan purchased the Welsh outfit just over four years ago, they paid £2m to do so.
Now, however, according to a report from Bloomberg, Wrexham are worth 50 times more than that.
The report shared a number of interesting insights into the club’s financial situation, including that Wrexham are expected to confirm in the near future that their revenue from the previous financial year was £20m – more than double what it was 12 months prior.
As already mentioned, the Red Dragons are now worth around £100m, a staggering rise from what Rob and Ryan initially paid.
The new valuation comes following the Allyn family’s investment into the club and their purchase of a number of shares for 50 times more than the valuation of what Wrexham was worth in early 2021.
It’s also claimed that Reynolds and McElhenney have put $11m (around £8.5m) into the team since their takeover.

How Ryan Reynolds feels about owning Wrexham
Wrexham now being worth 50 times what the actors paid for it is pretty remarkable but it’s easy to see why.
The profile of their owners and the ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ documentary has opened up a completely new world for the small town in Wales that has benefitted them financially and on the pitch.
And while rival fans probably wished Rob and Ryan got bored of their investment and gave up back in 2022 when they failed to win promotion, they still seem to love the project they began four years ago.
An insight into how Reynolds feels about owning Wrexham emerged in late January, with one source saying: “Ryan’s work in the Deadpool movies has generated billions of dollars in ticket sales and it’s kept him firmly on the Hollywood A-list, but the Wrexham project has been a lot closer to his heart and the partnership with Rob McElhenney continues to bear real fruit.
“It’s apples and oranges to compare these two franchises. [Wrexham] captured Ryan’s heart and that strong connection he has to the place is now allowing him to expand his businesses into new territories and capture entire new fan bases in the process.”
