Gareth Bale has sent a clear warning to Wrexham as he looks to join the long list of megastars that own an EFL club.
There can be no doubt that Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are the benchmark for new owners looking to invest in EFL clubs.
They purchased Wrexham in February 2021 for £2m when the club were still a National League team and had been for over a decade.
Four years on, the Red Dragons are worth £350m and plying their trade in the rebranded Championship for the first time.
But they are not the only big names that have and still want to become EFL owners.

Gareth Bale message to Wrexham
Wrexham tried to sign Gareth Bale when he was still an active player, but the ex-Real Madrid man quashed a move.
Now, in 2025, Bale is looking to buy Wrexham’s rivals Cardiff City, who suffered relegation to League One last term.
Speaking to Boardroom, the Welshman has now discussed buying Cardiff and expressed his desire to surpass Wrexham if and when a deal goes ahead.
He said: “They [Wrexham] have set a kind of new benchmark on how to grow a club, and I think what they’ve done on the pitch through three promotions in a row is unheard of as well.
“So it’s all credit to what they’re doing. They’ve done a great job and obviously being Welsh and seeing another Welsh team do well is good for Welsh football and hopefully they continue to do well, but if we get Cardiff, hopefully we go past them.”
What Rob Mac said about Wrexham signing Gareth Bale
Reynolds and Mac have secured some major transfers since becoming Wrexham owners, but landing Bale would have been huge.
The ex-winger has won countless trophies at the very top of the game and was available on a free transfer a couple of years ago.
Mac commented on trying to sign Bale last year, saying: “Gareth Bale is still technically available! I made the plea last year and I’m just going to tell Gareth that the offer is still on the table.
“We’ll let him play golf whenever he wants. Just as long as he comes to training and we’ll figure out how to get him in the team.”
