Wrexham are set to compete in the Championship for the first time in 2025/26, and new investment is being targeted.

Wrexham beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 at the Racecourse Ground on April 26, securing themselves a second-place finish in League One.

The club will now compete in the Championship for the first time since it was rebranded and are back in the second tier for the first time since the 1980s.

It has already been suggested that Wrexham will have £40m available to spend without suffering any PSR problems this summer.

But Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are seemingly on the lookout for more investment to help the club compete at the highest level.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds want to sell Wrexham stake for £350m

Wrexham will quadruple their wage budget now that they are in the Championship.

But Humphrey Ker has already suggested that they must spend 10 times more to reach the Premier League.

McElhenney has hinted at going for promotion again in 2025/26 already, and a report from Bloomberg has now revealed the club’s North American owners are in the market to sell a stake in Wrexham.

It comes after internal talks have taken place regarding how the Dragons can raise capital in order to help Wrexham compete in the second tier.

The report states that Reynolds and McElhenney are now considering selling a stake for a valuation of up to £350 million ($475 million), which would make the Welsh outfit the most expensive side in the Championship.

No sale is expected anytime soon, however, with talks only thought to be in an early stage right now.

Wrexham need more money to land top targets

It’s easy to see why the duo may wish to bring in new investment after taking a look at some of their reported targets this summer.

Christian Eriksen is wanted by Wrexham and is currently taking home a staggering £150,000-a-week with Manchester United.

Ben Davies has been linked, and he is being paid £80,000-a-week at Tottenham Hotspur right now.

For comparison, Jay Rodriguez’s £15,000-a-week makes him Wrexham’s current highest earner.
