Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has now praised striker Steven Fletcher, after he came off the bench to make his first appearance for the club.
Parkinson’s side beat Doncaster Rovers on Saturday to make it six games unbeaten, and they were handed a huge boost as both new signing Fletcher and star striker Paul Mullin made their first appearances of the season.
Elliot Lee struck late on to win the game, and Wrexham’s depth upfront suddenly looks a lot stronger than it did a week ago.
Speaking after the game, Parkinson praised Fletcher for making himself available despite having barely any match fitness, with the veteran joining the day before.
“I was contemplating whether to put him on the bench because, obviously he’s only trained Thursday in a fitness session and then Friday,” Parkinson stated of Fletcher.
“I just said to him, ‘have you got 10, 15 minutes in you, how do your legs feel after the last two days?’
“We don’t want to get him injured because you know, he hasn’t done a lot of training. But he said ‘I feel I’ve got it in my legs’ and I thought he gave us a huge lift when he came on and showed some real quality.”
Wrexham’s attacking firepower
After a tough start to the season, and a chaotic end to the transfer window, Wrexham are now looking like a force who can contend for promotion.

Having Mullin back from injury could be season defining, and with Fletcher available as an experienced option, this side is not short of goals, and were already the joint-second top goalscorers in the division.
Now there are two extra quality options in attack, Wrexham have the strength in depth needed to compete throughout the season, and both players could end up being the difference makers when it comes to promotion at the end of the season.
