Wrexham have had some top-class players on their books during their storied history.

After a brief stint in Wales, goalkeeper Danny Ward left Wrexham to join Liverpool for £100,000.

He went on to win an FA Cup medal and is still playing in the Premier League this season with Leicester City.

Meanwhile, Wrexham legend Andy Morrell enjoyed a prolific stint at the Racecourse Ground with the Red Dragons and had a spell as their manager between 2011 and 2014.

Morell scored 25 goals in 113 matches for the Welsh outfit but one former striker, who had previously been world-class, struggled during his time with Wrexham.

Ian Rush struggled at Wrexham

Ian Rush began his playing career at Chester FC before signing for Liverpool in 1980.

Rush went on to have a few prolific spells with the Reds, scoring a staggering 339 goals and providing 110 assists.

He remains their all-time top scorer to this day, with Mohamed Salah (232) the only active player anywhere close to matching his tally.

After leaving Liverpool in 1996, the now 63-year-old spent time at Leeds United, Newcastle United, and Sheffield United.

Rush then joined Wrexham on a free transfer ahead of the 1998/99 campaign getting underway.

His time in his home country really didn’t work out, however, with the former Liverpool hitman failing to score or assist in 22 appearances.

Rush then left Wrexham in the summer of 1999 for Australian outfit Sydney Olympic before retiring a year later.

Ian Rush trophies won

While his one year with Wrexham wasn’t great, there’s no denying Rush is one of the best-ever strikers to grace the English game.

He won a staggering 20 different trophies throughout his playing career, the first of which was the Football League First Division in 1981/82.

His last was the League Cup (now Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons) in the 1994/95 campaign.

Every trophy Rush won, all of which came at Liverpool, can be seen below:
