Wrexham owe a lot of their success in recent years to the fantastic form of club legend, Paul Mullin.
After scoring 34 goals in 2020/21 for a Cambridge United side who won promotion from League Two that season, Wrexham snapped up Paul Mullin in July 2021.
The striker’s deal with Cambridge had expired and, in what was perhaps the best bit of business the club ever did, they managed to nab the now 30-year-old on a free transfer.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds were sent a Mullin warning prior to to the deal getting over the line by Wrexham chief Shaun Harvey.
But any doubts over a deal getting done or the potential impact it could have on the Red Dragons’ budget were surely quickly eradicated.
Mullin now has over 100 goals for the club, and it’s probably fair to assume that without him, they may not be in League One right now.

Former Paul Mullin partner replaced by Ollie Palmer
During their first transfer window as owners, Rob and Ryan sanctioned a total of 10 transfers, including Mullin’s.
One of the other names to arrive at the Racecourse Ground in the summer of 2021 was Liam McAlinden.
McAlinden joined on a free transfer from Morecambe in July and was expected to lead the line for Phil Parkinson alongside Mullin.
However, his first season in Wales really did not work out, featuring in 32 National League fixtures – primarily as a striker – but only scoring one goal.
With it clear Mullin needed a new partner up top, Wrexham wasted little time bringing another number nine in, signing Ollie Palmer from AFC Wimbeldon in January 2022 for £300,000, as per BBC Sport.
McAlinden eventually left the Red Dragons for Scunthorpe United in February 2024 after scoring just one in 55 appearances.

Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer out of favour at Wrexham
Mullin and Palmer went on to form an excellent partnership that helped Wrexham win back-to-back promotions.
However, both players have now fallen firmly down the pecking order in the 2024/25 season.
Mullin and Palmer had transfer interest late in the winter window but remained in Wales for the time being.
However, neither striker has featured in any of Wrexham’s last six league matches after they both scored just three League One goals each in the first half of the campaign.
