A Hollywood superstar is rumoured to be at Wrexham’s season opener against MK Dons at the Racecourse Ground this weekend.
Wrexham are pretty much the hottest club in football right with just about everyone wanting in on the action. Since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham in 2020, the club has been sprinkled with the kind of glitz and glamour not usually afforded to club’s in the fifth tier of English football.
From sponsorship deals with TikTok, to being featured in the video game series FIFA and playing the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea on a US tour, it’s fair to say Wrexham have come a long way in a very short space of time.
Wrexham have attracted plenty of A-list spectators in recent times
This weekend is a special one for Wrexham fans, and one that’s been 15 years in the making. It marks the Welsh club’s return to the Football League after a decade and a half absence, as Wrexham kick off the new League Two season on Saturday with a home fixture against MK Dons. A sell-out 10,000 capacity crowd is expected to be packed into the Racecourse, which could very well include a Hollywood superstar.
Over recent times a vast array of celebrities including David Beckham, Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd have attended Wrexham’s games, and word on the street is Hugh Jackman could be in attendance at the Racecourse this weekend.
Hollywood superstar Huge Jackman rumoured to be at the season opener this weekend
The Australian actor is currently in the UK shooting scenes for the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie, which of course features Ryan Reynolds as the titular character. Jackman plays Marvel X-Men superhero Wolverine in the film, and several photos of the pair in costume on set have already going viral.
However, due to the ongoing actors strike in the US, filming for the new movie has ground to a halt, meaning Jackman has a lot of spare time on his hands. Given the fact he’s so close to Reynolds, rumors suggest he’ll be at the Racecourse ground this weekend to watch Wrexham in action alongside the co-owner.
Australian Wrexham Supporters said on Twitter: “Rumour is our mate Hugh Jackman will be at the Racecourse this weekend, although we have been fooled before.”
“How great would it be to see Hugh Jackman in Wrexham. So many people saying it’s happening,” another fan added.
A third fan said: “Hugh Jackman on the way? Both him and Ryan are in the UK shooting Deadpool (which is currently on hiatus).”
McElhenney is flying back from the US to be at the game
It remains to be seen if Jackman attends the game with Reynolds, but one person we do know who’ll be in attendance is Rob McElhenney.
McElhenney recently shared a short video of himself previewing the weekend’s game against MK Dons. Filming himself on a balcony, Rob said, “so I’m about to take off from LA to get on the flight to go see Wrexham’s first game back in the league,” before Paul Mullin makes a brief cameo.
McElhenney also told S4C ahead of the clash: “It’s going to be a tight one against MK Dons. They’re a good squad and we’re hoping for the best and very excited – up the town.”
