Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds tried and failed to sign several players for Wrexham over the summer.

Wrexham had a solid 2024 summer transfer window, bringing in some top players to help aid their League One promotion push.

The likes of George Dobson, Sebsatian Revan and Arthur Okonkwo have all impressed since signing for the Red Dragons ahead of the 2024/25 season.

However, while the players brought to the Racecourse Ground have performed well, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds may be upset they missed out on a couple of players.

One of the main areas the Welsh outfit tried to strengthen over the summer was the centre-forward spot.

Wrexham confirmed the signing of West Bromwich Albion striker Modou Faal for a new club-record fee of £590,000.

Prior to that though, they tried and failed to sign a Premier League forward who has just made his European debut.

How Wrexham summer target Will Lankshear fared on European debut for Tottenham

It was reported in July that Wrexham had enquired about signing Will Lankshear on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

However, it then emerged that Tottenham wanted to keep Wrexham target Lankshear, with Ange Postecoglou seemingly keen to embed him into the first-team squad in north London during the 2024/25 season.

The 19-year-old, who the Lilywhites signed for £2m according to Sky Sports, had to wait some time to make his first competitive appearance for the club but was finally given a chance on Thursday evening.

Spurs took on Ferencvarosi TC in a Europa League clash on Thursday, with Lankshear starting and completing 66 minutes before being brought off after a rather underwhelming display.

Speaking after the game, as per football.london, Postecoglou gave his verdict on the Wrexham target.

He said: “Will was unlucky with a couple of moments when we could have got a goal.

“These guys are there because they’ve earned their spot, but they’re an important part of our development because whilst we want to be a team that has an impact this year.”

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds next Wrexham transfer priority is clear

After missing out on Lankshear, Wrexham opted to bring Faal to Wales for a club-record fee.

The former West Brom man has not had a great start to life at the club, however, with Parkinson seemingly not too keen to hand him too many chances.

The 21-year-old made his debut in the EFL Trophy versus Salford City but is yet to appear in League One and has been left out of the last four matchday squads.

But with Steven Fletcher struggling and both he and Ollie Palmer out of contract at the end of 2024/25, it makes sense for the Wrexham owners to start looking at other potential striking options going into January and the 2025 summer transfer window.

Another move for Lankshear looks to be off the cards though, given Postecoglou suggested he and other young players are an important part of Spurs’ development.
