Wrexham signed winger Jacob Mendy from Boreham Wood in 2022, but his first impression of fitting into the Wrexham squad has only just come to light.
In the latest episode of ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘, there is a segment with Mendy talking about his arrival and his thoughts and feelings about joining the club.
The 26-year-old admits that he was welcomed to the club by star man Paul Mullin, but that he had difficulty understanding the Liverpool-born striker.
Mullin’s scouse accent was nothing in comparison to the Welsh language that the winger would have to learn and embrace at the club…

Jacob Mendy on the struggles with the Welsh language
“When I first came to the changing room I met Paul Mullin. He was telling me how good the people and the club was, but I couldn’t understand one thing he was saying.
“That was the first impression I had of the club and the team – so I thought I was going to struggle to understand them.”
Later on, Mendy showcases his progression in learning Welsh by trying to say a phrase – but admits he’s still struggling.

“Fy enw i yw Jacob, I don’t know if my pronunciation was right, but that means my name is Jacob in Welsh.”
On the field, Mendy has been solid since his arrival last year, making 31 appearances scoring five goals.
He will be hoping to add to his account against Crewe at the Racecourse Ground tomorrow afternoon.
