Phil Parkinson is on course for a third-straight promotion with Wrexham, who find themselves in 2nd place of the League One table.
Phil Parkinson has propelled Wrexham up the Football League since arriving as manager in 2021, guiding them to promotion from the National League and then from League Two last season, with promotion from League One now on the cards.
Last time out, Wrexham drew 0-0 with Wigan Athletic but remain a point ahead of Wycombe Wanderers in 3rd, now with just four games left to play.
Parkinson expects a close finish in the promotion race with one of Wrexham and Wycombe bound to join Birmingham City in securing automatic promotion to the Championship. But stabilising in the Championship will be Wrexham’s biggest challenge yet.
There’s a lot of Wrexham fans who don’t like Parkinson’s style of play but few can deny the good job that he’s done over the last four years at the Racecourse.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney trust in Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson
Speaking to Wrexham Insider, expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney remain convinced by Parkinson’s ability to manage the club beyond League One, praising their willingness to leave the footballing side of matters to those with expertise in the matter.
Bailey explained to us: “Wrexham trust Phil Parkinson and let’s not forget he has experience in the Championship. But let’s not forget he knows what relegation teams look like at that level, they will trust his views on this squad, that is the beauty of the Rob and Ryan ownership, and they should be applauded for this, they don’t interfere like that – they don’t pretend to know what a good footballer looks like.”
To date, Parkinson has overseen 204 games as Wrexham manager. He’s of course won two promotions with another in the pipelines, averaging a staggering 2.03 points-per-game.

Phil Parkinson’s record managing in the Championship
Earlier this year Parkinson oversaw his 1000th game as a manager. He’s won 430 of those and boasts a career average of 1.53 points-per-game.
But his record in the Championship isn’t impressive. Not at all in fact with Parkinson boasting a points-per-game of 0.82 in the second tier with just 26 wins from 141 games in the Championship, as spells in charge of the likes of Colchester United Hull City, Charlton athletic and Bolton Wanderers.
| Statistic | Parkinson managing in the Champ |
| Games | 141 |
| Wins | 26 |
| Draws | 37 |
| Losses | 78 |
| Goals F/A | 117/228 |
| Points | 115 |
| PPG | 0.82 |
But there’s absolutely no reason to suggest why Parkinson couldn’t cut it in the Championship with Wrexham, especially if he does go on to secure third-straight promotion this season. He’d simply need the same backing that’s gotten him this far already.
Wrexham against Bristol Rovers kicks off at 3pm on Friday.
