Wrexham co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds backed the club heavily in the January transfer market.
Their first half-season in League One had largely been a success, with Wrexham spending a decent amount of time inside the automatic promotion places.
However, while they already had a big squad, it became clear that the Red Dragons needed some more prolific goal-scorers.
Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin have still scored just three apiece in the league, hence why big money was spent on two new strikers.
Sam Smith signed in a club-record transfer, while Jay Rodriguez joined on a free but with a fairly hefty wage packet, thought to be £15,000-a-week according to the Mirror.

What Ryan Reynolds told Jay Rodriguez after Wrexham move
There was likely much excitement around Rodriguez joining from fans as while he may now be 35, like Steven Fletcher, he was a proven Premier League goalscorer in the past.
Upon his arrival at the Racecourse Ground, the former Burnley man received a phone call from co-owner, Ryan Reynolds.
Now, in an interview with The Athletic, Rodriguez has shared what the A-list actor told him.
He said: “He [Reynolds] said how happy he was at me joining and how, if I needed anything, he’s just on the end of a phone.
“He then started explaining how special the club and the area are to him. A really nice chat.”

Jay Rodriguez shares how he felt about joining Wrexham
Burnley are among the favourites to win promotion from the Championship this season, sitting within three points of the top two.
However, much like Mullin, Palmer, and many more before him, Rodriguez was convinced to drop down a level for the Welsh club.
In the same interview, he offered his verdict on Wrexham and how he felt when they approached him.
Rodriguez said: “I was already willing Wrexham to do well from afar because it is such a great story.
“It’s why I felt really flattered when they came in for me.”
