Jordan Davies makes ‘scary’ claim as Wrexham begin pre-season tour in America

Wrexham midfielder Jordan Davies was left stunned by what he saw as Phil Parkinson’s first-team squad began their tour in America.

The League One campaign is edging ever closer and Wrexham have been hard at work preparing for their clash against Wycombe Wanderers on August 10th.

Five new players have arrived through the door, with Phil Parkinson snapping up Arthur Okonkwo, Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Callum Burton and Sebastian Revan all on permanent deals.

Supporters got to see new signing Dobson in action against Hanley Town on Saturday, along with Okonkwo, but it was a long-serving player who took his opportunity.

Jordan Davies – a graduate of the Wrexham academy – only started twice in League Two last term after playing a regular part in their rise from the National League.

However, the 25-year-old is using his previous hardships as fuel to impress in pre-season, starting with a brace in a 5-1 hammering of Hanley.

Davies will want to use that impressive display as momentum for their tour of America, as Wrexham play against Bournemouth on Friday.

Jordan Davies reveals what is ‘scary’ about America

The Wrexham squad are in America to use the state-of-the-art training facilities while readying themselves for League One by playing superior opposition.

Parkinson’s men will play against the Cherries first before picking their wits against Chelsea and MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada.

For players like Davies, it’s a chance to show their worth ahead of League One but also acknowledge the support backing them in America.

The Welshman has admitted it’s ‘scary’ to see the amount of fans who know of and watch Wrexham from across the pond, describing the trip as ‘one of the highlights of the season’.

“It is scary,” Davies told The Leader. “You have still got to pinch yourself sometimes but it is a great experience and I am really looking forward to it.

“It is really good for the club and the exposure over in America. “It is one of the highlights of the season that the lads look forward so we are buzzing to get over there. “It is just taking it all in and living in the moment.

“You are over in LA representing Wrexham in front of 20,000 fans which is really good.”

The task that lies ahead of Jordan Davies at Wrexham

Parkinson’s midfield at Wrexham is overflowing with competition, and that can make it a difficult task to break through.

Regardless of what happens in pre-season, Davies is up against it to make an impression and beat the rest of his teammates to a spot in the engine room.

Unfortunately, Andy Cannon, James McClean, Elliot Lee, George Evans, James Jones and George Dobson are all ahead of him in the pecking order, judging by their qualities and who Parkinson favoured last term.

That isn’t to say Davies won’t play his part in League One, though, when looking at who is in front of him, it’s hard to see where the minutes are coming from.
