A key cog in Wrexham’s promotion charge has just issued a message to supporters after discovering he’ll play no further part this season.

It’s a great time to be a Wrexham supporter.

Spearheaded by Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Phil Parkinson‘s men are closing in on a second consecutive promotion for the first time in their 159-year history.

Wrexham need just five points from their three remaining games to mathematically seal the deal however, if Barrow and MK Dons drop points this weekend, their promotion to League One will be confirmed on Saturday evening.

Several players have played their part in their first season back in the Football League, including Paul Mullin, Andy Cannon, Arthur Okonkwo and James McClean.

However, one of Parkinson’s stars will play no further part this season.

Wrexham star Jacob Mendy ruled out for the season

Wrexham left back Jacob Mendy has been a key cog in Parkinson’s winning machine at the top of League Two.

The 27-year-old has provided quality ammunition down the left flank, producing two goals and five assists in 31 appearances this term.

Mendy often shared responsibility with McClean in the left-back role, but once the Irish maestro moved into midfield, The Gambian international flourished as a regular starter.

Sadly, the powerful defender pulled up with a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win over Colchester United and missed the 4-1 win over Crawley Town on Tuesday night. Now, the former Wealdstone man has vowed to come back stronger after revealing his season is over.

Mendy’s attacking influence in this campaign has gone under the radar. Providing attacking quality down the left flank, only Sam Dalby, McClean and Cannon have produced more assists than the Wrexham star this term.

James McClean will continue at left-back

When McClean joined the club last summer, Parkinson planned to play him as an attacking left-back in his five-man defence system.

The 35-year-old, despite operating as a winger for most of his career, has flourished in a deeper role, showcasing his ability to defend and spring forward in attack.

Although Mendy’s injury serves as a huge blow, having McClean in reserve shows the breadth of talent that Parkinson has to choose from.

The former Sunderland wideman has provided immense versatility to the Wrexham ranks, having starred as a left-back, winger and central midfielder this term.

Parkinson will need a couple more big shifts from the veteran to secure promotion to League One, a level they’ve not played at since 2005.
