League One boss shares thoughts on Phil Parkinson’s approach at Wrexham

Wrexham suffered defeat on Tuesday night, falling to a 1-0 defeat away at Stevenage in a frustrating evening for Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham bounced back from defeat to Birmingham City by beating Crawley Town at the STōK Cae Ras.

Phil Parkinson then geared up for an away double-header as Wrexham travelled to Leyton Orient and Stevenage.

A 0-0 draw in London was no great shame but Wrexham drew another blank at Stevenage on Tuesday night.

Yet rather than claim a share of the spoils, Wrexham lost this time.

Louis Thompson’s long-range strike beat Arthur Okonkwo in the first half and that was enough for Stevenage to beat a toothless Wrexham side.

Stevenage boss on Wrexham approach

Parkinson has admitted being pleased with the opening 10 minutes but felt that Wrexham ‘wasted’ the rest of the first half.

Wrexham had plenty of the ball over the course of the game but no end product to really test Stevenage.

Stevenage boss Alex Revell was anticipating a ‘huge game’ against Wrexham and he has now given his thoughts on how Parkinson and co approach the game.

Speaking on Stevenage’s official YouTube channel, Revell noted that Wrexham tend to start games very quickly.

Revell has watched plenty of Wrexham games and knew that Parkinson’s side would be aggressive ‘straight from the off’.

Revell added that he urged his players to start well and to be positive against Wrexham’s strong start, ultimately leading to Thompson’s 10th-minute opener.

“We knew that, when you watch Wrexham… you know they want to come after you straight from the off,” said Revell.

“We knew we had to start right and I just thought the first thing we did was positive. We want to play positive, we want to play with a purpose and we saw that with the energy and the way we controlled the game.

“The performance obviously deserved a win, for sure. Second half, yes, they had more of the ball but they’re going to. When they go long, it’s difficult, but to a man, every single player deserves huge praise,” said Revell.

Wrexham must hit back at home

A double-header away from home is never easy, especially when both journeys are incredibly long.

Wrexham only claimed one point from those two away games and didn’t even score a single goal.

Attacking concerns are emerging for Wrexham but Parkinson will hope that a return home will boost his side.

Wrexham are exceptionally strong at home and this weekend’s game against Northampton Town may be just what Wrexham need right now.

Parkinson will certainly want to go into the international break on a high with the home clash against Lincoln City now postponed.
