Wrexham take on Exeter City this weekend and Phil Parkinson would no doubt love a repeat of their last League One meeting.
Wrexham beat Stockport County at home last weekend, reclaiming second place in the League One table.
Phil Parkinson now takes his side on the road, though as Wrexham face a long journey down to Devon.
Exeter City are the opponents this weekend, with Wrexham looking for another victory in the race for promotion to the Championship.
Exeter are in decent form right now, going unbeaten in their last six League One games, winning two and drawing four.
Wrexham must be wary of a slip-up at St James Park, but a repeat of the 3-0 win over Exeter in November would be welcomed.
Exeter City ace admits being ‘bullied’ by Wrexham
Wrexham coasted past the Grecians at the STōK Cae Ras, with defender Max Cleworth opening the scoring early on.
Ollie Palmer made it 2-0 before even half an hour had been played, before Ollie Rathbone added number three in the second half.
Look at Wrexham’s goals that day, and you will see a common theme – balls in the box.
Cleworth’s goal came from a corner before Palmer headed home Ryan Barnett’s right-wing cross.
Rathbone’s goal also came from a corner as the diminutive midfielder managed to head in from close range.
Wrexham really exploited Exeter on crosses into the box, and Grecians defender Jack McMillan has commented on that defeat.
Speaking on Exeter’s official YouTube channel, right back McMillan admitted that Wrexham ‘bullied’ Gary Caldwell’s side last time out.
McMillan noted that Wrexham were just too strong physically, but Exeter have been looking back at that game to try and improve this time around.
The Scot pointed to Exeter’s back-to-back home wins in recent weeks, and whilst he is expecting a difficult game, he believes that the Grecians can come up with a result.
“Off the back of two home games we’ve won, another three points would be massive,” said McMillan.
“We know it’s going to be a difficult game. Wrexham are up at the top end of the table, trying to get promoted, and we also do remember they kind of turned us over away at their place,” said McMillan.
“I think, physically, they bullied us that game, so we’ve looked at a few things this week and parts of that game that we played away at Wrexham that we want to put right,” he added.
Gary Caldwell on facing Wrexham
This is still Phil Parkinson coming up against Gary Caldwell, but the Scot won’t be in the dugout.
Caldwell received a red card against Lincoln City last week and will be suspended this weekend.
Assistant manager Kevin Nicholson will be in the dugout this weekend, but Caldwell has still previewed the game.
Caldwell has told the Exeter official website that he knows where Wrexham will attempt to hurt his side, no doubt believing that more crosses are coming into the box.
Caldwell believes that Exeter can hurt Wrexham as well though, suggesting that they can get a result at their best.
“Nothing is decided yet this season, top or bottom, and every game is important. Obviously playing a team at the top lets us see where we are as a team not only this season, but next season as well,” said Caldwell.
“It’s a full house at SJP and we want to win at home in front of our supporters against a big team, which is something we haven’t done enough of as a team this year. Saturday would be a great place to start.
“We know it’ll be difficult when we face a top team, but we know at our very best we can compete and beat these teams when we get it right. We know where they will hurt us, and we are clear on where we can hurt Wrexham.
“We know what we have to do, but the difficulty is then making sure we go and do it,” he added.
Exeter will be a potential banana skin for Wrexham this weekend, but Parkinson will be expecting another strong away performance with potential promotion to the Championship on the line.
