Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were so close to having their Wrexham dreams crushed by one man.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds managed to convince the Wrexham Supporters Trust to sell them their club in 2021.
In their first full season at the helm, the duo watched on as the Red Dragons secured a second-place finish in the National League before tasting defeat in the play-offs.
With Wrexham losing around £1m a year when playing in the fifth tier due to the investments made in player wages and transfer fees, it was imperative they secured promotion in the 2022/23 season.
When all was said and done, the Welsh club did exactly that, earning 111 points to top the National League and end their 15-year stint in the division.
However, that came very close to not happening thanks to one manager and his team.

Old Wrexham rival Luke Williams sacked by Swansea City
While Wrexham did end up clinching first place, they were pushed right until the final day of the season by Notts County.
Notts County ended 2022/23 on a very impressive 107 points, in no small part due to the excellent management of Luke Williams.
Williams did end up taking them out of the National League and up to League Two before departing in January 2024.
The manager then linked up with Swansea City in the Championship but things have not worked out great in Wales for him.
The Swans are currently 17th in the second tier and confirmed on February 17th that they had decided to part company with Williams.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s message to Luke Williams
After missing out on the only automatic promotion place in the National League to Wrexham, Notts County were forced to compete in the play-offs.
As was to be expected, Williams managed to win the play-off final at Wembley Stadium, beating Chesterfield on penalties.
After winning promotion to League Two, Williams revealed that Reynolds and McElhenney called him to send their congratulations, as per BBC Sport.
He said: “They were incredibly gracious.
“They called me after the play-off final. They spoke to me at length, they’re incredibly classy guys, they’ve transformed that club.”
