Wrexham have been on fine form in the Championship in recent weeks, as they have been unbeaten in their last four league games.
While fans may have hoped that there would have been more wins in this unbeaten run, there have been positives in the performances from the Red Dragons.
Phil Parkinson’s tactical alteration has seemingly sorted the defensive woes they were suffering ahead of the first international break; however, Wrexham are still suffering from one worrying Championship stat.
The boss of the Welsh club was facing increasing pressure ahead of the Norwich City game, with five managers being linked to the Wrexham job.
Yet, he has proven the doubters wrong, well, most of them, as one former player still believes there to be a better option out there to lead them forward this season.
Matt Jansen believes Wrexham should appoint Sam Allardyce as manager
Matt Jansen was a Wrexham player in 2009, playing three games for the Red Dragons in the Conference North, only scoring one goal; however, he will be more fondly remembered for his time at Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League.
The former player believes that former England manager Sam Allardyce is the solution to any defensive problems that they still have lingering despite the tactical change by Phil Parkinson, as he spoke to the Fearless in Devotion podcast in association with Palantir Financial Planning.
He said: “There’s always going to be big names flying around who people say would be able to do a better job than Phil Parkinson. If he does go, you could have the likes of Steven Gerrard, Sean Dyche, and there’s always Big Sam.
“I think Big Sam is underrated. I hate what happened to him with England, but he’s such a good man manager. He was ahead of his time. He had psychologists back in 2000, and he’s vastly experienced. I think he’s a great manager.”

Sam Allardyce would not be a good fit for Wrexham
While Sam Allardyce had success with many clubs throughout his career, particularly with Bolton Wanderers, he is not the man to lead Wrexham forward.
He is renowned for his work in making a team hard to beat, but in his most recent spells at West Brom and Leeds United, this could not have been further from the truth.

The former England manager would only be seen as a short-term solution, as he is now 70 years old.
There is no need to replace Phil Parkinson at present due to the fine work he is doing at the club; however, if they were to go in another direction, it would make sense to approach a figure that may be more long-term.
