Wrexham have officially announced their squad for the upcoming Championship campaign.

Under EFL guidelines, Phil Parkinson has had to submit a 25-man squad for players aged 21 and over, including goalkeepers.

Parkinson has had to exclude some players from his final squad given the amount of players currently on the books after a flurry of transfer activity from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Wrexham have named 24 players, meaning they have an extra space for a player to be named at a later date and there are some notable omissions.

Ollie Rathbone among Wrexham players omitted from Championship squad

Ollie Rathbone is among a number of high-profile first-team stars to be excluded from Parkinson’s 24-man squad.

The midfielder was the club’s player of the season in League One but Rathbone suffered an ankle injury during the pre-season tour to Australia and New Zealand.

Other notable absentees include Jay Rodriguez and Danny Ward, both of whom are facing lengthy periods out of action.

All thirteen summer signings have been included in the squad and Parkinson has opened up the door for a free agent to potentially join by only naming 24 players.

Eoghan O’Connell’s Wrexham future now in huge doubt following squad omission

Eoghan O’Connell is another player that has been excluded from the squad and it now throws his future at the club into huge doubt.

The likes of Rathbone and Rodriguez are currently injured and there is no clear idea of when those injured stars will return to action.

However, O’Connell has appeared in both Carabao Cup clashes so far this season but hasn’t found his way into the league squad.

It remains to be seen whether there is a mutual agreement over the termination of his contract, or O’Connell faces months without first-team action.
