Wrexham striker, Ollie Palmer has opened up about playing for the club and how much the “big” games mean to the players.

It has been a great season for Wrexham which looks like it could continue this weekend in the FA Cup fourth round.

This week sees Phil Parkinson and his side travel to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers with a fifth-round tie-up for grabs.

In recent years there has been a focus on the competition. Last season this was especially the case as the Reds secured a win over Coventry City and a draw to Sheffield United.

This campaign sees yet another Championship opposition in waiting with the 18th placed away side ahead.

Now Ollie Palmer has opened up about the away trip and how much it will mean to the players and fans.

The past week has seen Palmer return from injury just in time for the FA Cup clash and ready to take his spot up front.

He has now discussed the game with Leader Live and has opened up about how much a potential win could mean.

On that, he said: “Last season we stepped up to the plate with them big fixtures and we will be trying to do the same this season. Blackburn away is a very tough game.

“It will be tough because they are a good side and everyone needs to be at it. A cup run is good for the club, the players and the fans. It is something that everyone wants to be a part of.”

It is safe to say that the Wrexham fans love a cup draw against top opposition and this week will be no different. Against Championship opposition, the Reds tend to find a second wind and show their best.

Continuing on, Palmer added: “I have loved every minute of it here. I have enjoyed the last two years and the fans have been brilliant with me. You always want to give everything back to them.

“The promotions, cup runs, the derby games. I was gutted to miss Shrewsbury and not be out there and be part of such a big game for everyone in Wrexham.”

It is clear to see that the game means as much to the players as it does to the fans and that will only help coming into the game. The Reds can be hopeful of a positive result against a faltering Championship side.
