Peterborough United are enduring a woeful start to the 2025/26 season, currently sitting dead last of the League One table.
Last season, Wrexham were in League One. But they eventually finished in 2nd place of the table and earned a third-straight promotion to Championship for this season.
Like Peterborough United, Wrexham haven’t enjoyed such a strong start, with Phil Parkinson’s side currently sitting in 18th place of the Championship table after nine games.
But it’s a markedly better start than what Posh have had: they sit in last place of the League One table with seven points to their name after 11 games of the campaign.
During the summer transfer window, Wrexham sent Jacob Mendy and then Tom O’Connor out on loan to Peterborough United, though neither player is yet to make much of an impact.

Darragh MacAnthony lashes out at Peterborough United form
Speaking on The Hard Truth podcast, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed how he recently held talks with manager Darren Ferguson about the current vein of form and whether he thinks results will improve.
MacAnthony said: “We’ve got a squad that should not have won (only) two games in 11. We’re not playing well enough, the football’s not exciting enough, it’s bland.
“I had an honest conversation with my manager and said ‘look, I need to know, have you go this?’ You love this football club, I’m not saying I’m firing you but I need you to talk to me and his response was ‘we’re there, you’ll see it, we will win games now, we’re ready’.”
So far this season, Mendy and O’Connor have played five games each in League One. Both players joined relatively late in the summer transfer window but both have now played in each of the last five league games, suggesting that they’re now well in starting contention going forward.
This summer, Wrexham sold and loaned out a number of players as well as signing 13 new ones.
Wrexham might have to take action amid shocking Peterborough United defensive record
Should Wrexham remain a Championship side for next season then it seems highly likely that the likes of O’Connor and Mendy would be moved on, given the fact that neither player is in contention right now and that Wrexham are only likely to keep on improving the playing squad, after spending £33million on new players this summer alone.
But if both players stay at Posh for the entire season and remain part of this shocking Posh defence, that has already conceded 20 goals in league One this season, then neither player will have much sell-on value next summer.
For Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, it might be in Wrexham’s best interests to recall the pair in January, providing Posh’s form doesn’t improve, and then either look for another loan team or a permanent sale, before their stock value takes too much of a hit.
