Wrexham striker Paul Mullin rejected an offer from Rob McElhenney to stay in his house in California after he picked up an injury in a pre-season friendly against Manchester United.
The star forward suffered a huge blow as he punctured a lung in a collision with goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, and he is set to be on the sidelines for an extended period.
He underwent surgery in the USA after his injury and had to remain there in his initial recovery period.
Wrexham co-owner McElhenney made an offer to the striker to stay with him, but Mullin turned it down, and he has now told The Rich Eisen Show why he decided not to stay with the actor.
“They offered me obviously to stay in his place with them and obviously I was unbelievably grateful for that, they wanted to really look after me and make sure that everything was taken care of, but my two friends from Liverpool were here watching me for the tour,” he stated.
“They both decided that they’d like to stay with me just to give me confidence and give me some home comfort. So although Rob offered for me to stay in his house, and it was an unbelievable gesture from him, I turned it down just because my two friends were here.
“I think two or three guests would have been a bit too many for them.”
Mullin’s painful injury
Mullin’s injury was a sore one for a number of reasons. He has since spoken about how painful and frightening the injury was for him, and having an extended absence from the pitch is not ideal.

The 28-year-old scored 46 times last season, helping Wrexham achieve promotion in style, and his absence has been noticeable on the pitch, with his side failing to win either of their opening two fixtures in League Two.
McElhenney clearly recognised the severity of Mullin’s injury, and it was a good gesture from him to offer support, which Mullin evidently appreciated, but did not feel was fully necessary to aid his recovery.
