Paul Mullin has been the leading man for Wigan Athletic this campaign following his loan from Wrexham this summer.

The 30-year-old has experienced some highs during his short time in Greater Manchester with the Latics, as he has registered four goals in 13 matches.

However, he has also experienced several lows too, with this week proving to be a ‘tough’ one for everyone involved with Wigan.

Now, Mullin has sent a defiant message following their difficult spell in both League One and the EFL Cup this week, as Wigan suffered three losses to eliminate them from the cup and leave them languishing 14th in the division.

Paul Mullin believes Wigan Athletic must ‘stick together’ to turn their fortune around

Wigan suffered their third defeat of the week as Cardiff City emerged as 2-0 victors in their clash at the weekend, and Paul Mullin had a defiant message as they look to turn their form around.

As reported by Wigan Today, he said: “Us as players and everyone involved – staff, everyone around the place – we’ve got to stick together.

“It’s been a tough week, but a week that hopefully isn’t going to define our season.

“We can turn it around really quickly. In football, you get another chance around the corner. We’ve just got to work as hard as we can to put what’s gone wrong right on the training pitch.

“We didn’t manage to do it against Cardiff, but I’m pretty sure starting from tomorrow, we’ll prepare for next week and make sure we do a helluva lot better than we have done in the last three games.”

Paul Mullin believes the squad rotation of Wigan Athletic may have had a negative impact

The Latics lost 4-1 to Bolton Wanderers at the start of their three fixtures last week before they were eliminated from the EFL Cup by Wycombe Wanderers, before Mullin struggled as Wigan lost to Cardiff City.

Between the three fixtures there were several changes to the starting XI for all three games as Wigan manager Steven Schumacher looked to ensure fatigue was not an issue and to aim to get a tactical advantage.

However, the Wrexham favourite believes this may have had a negative impact on the side, as he said: “It’s been a tough week.

“I think last weekend (at Bolton), we were nowhere near what we’ve set for ourselves.

“The first couple of games this season, I think we’ve been very good, and then last week was a setback.

“Obviously, midweek, we made a lot of changes in the Cup, and equally, we didn’t really get going to what we’ve been practising on the training pitch.”
